Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) - The Environmental Protection Agency says it is going forward with a new federal rule to protect small streams, tributaries and wetlands, despite a court ruling that blocked the measure in 13 central and Western... The EPA says the rule, which took effect Friday in more than three dozen states, will safeguard drinking water for millions of Americans. Opponents pledged to continue to fight the rule, emboldened by a federal court decision Thursday that blocked it from Alaska to Arkansas. "We see this (rule) as very hurtful to farmers and ranchers and we're going to do everything to stop it politically," said Don Parrish of the American Farm Bureau Federation, one of several farm and business groups that have filed suit against the... Lawsuits to block the regulation are pending across the country, and the Republican-controlled Congress has moved to thwart it. The House has ignored a White House veto threat and passed a bill to block it, and a Senate committee has passed a... The senators - two Democrats and two Republicans - said in an opinion column Friday that the EPA has "created considerable and potentially costly confusion for many American businesses and communities who are just trying to do their jobs well. Warren Sapp has just been charged with 3 counts of domestic violence stemming from an incident in Las Vegas . where officials say he bit and stomped on his girlfriend's head. Sapp attacked his longtime girlfriend , Chalyce Moore ?, on April 28th at the M Resort in Las Vegas. and Sapp allegedly threw a margarita in her face in their private cabana by the pool. Sapp allegedly grabbed Chalyce by the arm or purse and violently pulled on her. The couple left the resort together in a car -- heading toward Chalyce's condo. During the car ride, the Chalyce says she got sick of arguing and told Sapp to get out of the car. At one point, Sapp got out of the car and asked another driver for a ride. According to the docs, they got back in the car together and eventually got to the condo -- where the violence continued. Once inside, Sapp allegedly threw a belt at her. While she was down, Chalyce claims Sapp stepped on her face while wearing white Jordan sandals. Sapp is approximately 6'2", 300 lbs and wears size 15 shoes. Chalyce's friend told police that Sapp's GF has sustained multiple injuries -- including a bruise on her lower lip, abrasions and bruises on her shoulders, bruising on her legs, and a bruise on one of her temples with a checkerboard imprint... Several planned new projects in the two cities will add about 450 hotel rooms, boosting inventory by at least 18 percent. In downtown Alexandria, the Hotel Bentley and Holiday Inn Downtown Convention Center (formerly the Alexander Fulton Hotel) are undergoing renovations. Though new hotels have been constructed in recent years — notably Courtyard by Marriott in 2010 and Candlewood Suites in 2012 — the last time a comparable number of projects were underway at the same time was 2007, when four new hotels were built. “I think this is a good thing,” said Sherry Smith-Ellington, executive director of the Alexandria-Pineville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “I think we do need new hotels. Jay Sharplin is managing partner for Southern Hospitality Group, which bought the former Fulton from the city and is renovating it for a planned reopening in early 2016. An experienced hotel operator, mainly in Natchitoches, who did extensive...
