You can’t truly begin to appreciate the brawn of the 616-hp W-12 engine in the 2015 Bentley Flying Spur until you locate an open, uninterrupted stretch of highway. But when you put your foot down, and the powerhouse of an engine comes to life, the Flying Spur is an absolute thrill to drive. While it’s great fun to let the Flying Spur’s W-12 engine come alive, there is a longstanding understanding that when it comes to Bentleys - and similar ultra-luxury sedans – the best place to ride is in the backseat. There is less to say about the driving experience of the Flying Spur, which offers tight steering and responses that belie the sedan’s massive size and 2. 7-ton curb weight, than the legs-stretched-out relaxing position of the rear seats. The genesis of the Flying Spur’s engine was, in fact, the merging of two V-6 engines developed by Volkswagen, which has been the parent company of Bentley for more than a decade now.
