Today brings news of what must be the final incarnation of the Aston Martin DB9. As our sister title Car points out, the new Aston Martin DB9 GT will have 540bhp, subtle visual tweaks and more (you can read Car's report here ). It represents what... the DB9 replacement is said to use forced induction. But it does draw attention to just what a stalwart the DB9 is. From the DBS and the current Vanquish, through to specials such as the One-77, the overall DB9 shape is familiar – but never boring. And considering the performance on offer and the luxury specification, a secondhand DB9 represents a corking bargain. The new DB9 GT may cost a whopping £140,000 but we've found DB9s that are just ten years old for less than a third of that figure. Evoke memories of the Bond's iconic DB5 colour scheme with this superb-looking silver model. Whatever DB9 you choose, it's likely to turn any journey into an event. Just looking – Aston Martin V8 Vantage - Evo

Has there been a more successful interpretation of Aston Martin’s family look than the V8 Vantage, launched in 2005. You might say the original Vanquish, but the subsequent DB9 made that car look a little heavy-handed. The DB9 itself is beautiful, but less dazzling now than it was when it debuted in 2004. The Vantage also makes it look a little soft. The DBS was an improvement, but lost the DB9’s purity. Little wonder the V8 was chosen to underpin James Bond’s new Aston Martin DB10 – perhaps the purest Aston Martin design since the Vantage itself. That the V8 Vantage is now conspicuously good value makes it even more appealing. Darker colours tend to work better on Aston Martins, but the Vantage seems more accommodating of lighter shades. Little detail is given in the advert to the car’s service history, but remember that this was a £79,995 car when new, and maintenance is vital. We covered the V8 Vantage in our buying guide in issue 198 – engines are generally solid, but clutches are pricey at £2500 fitted by Aston Martin Works, and dying batteries can be troublesome. There’s plenty to like about the way Vantages drive though, from the 380bhp, 4281cc V8, to the six-speed manual – as fitted to this car. Source: www.evo.co.uk

Aston Martin recycles old engines into new special edition supercars - Gizmag

Extending beyond the usual custom paint and interior, obligatory elements in any custom sports car, Aston is equipping each of the new special edition vehicles with center-console dials made from special recycled metal. Each car's metal can be traced back to the piston of a rebuilt or reworked Aston Martin engine from a specific car built during one of the six decades of Aston Martin Works' production history. Piston metal from the DB 2/4 Mk II, the first model built at the Aston Martin Works site, represents the 1955-1965 era, that from the DB5 stands in for 1965-1975, the V8 Coupe for 1975-1985, the V8 Vantage X-pack for 1985-1995, the V8 Vantage... "The colors of these six unique cars have been very carefully chosen to reflect and celebrate the progress of Aston Martin Works over those six decades," explains Dr. Matthew Bennett, general manager of VIP and Q by Aston Martin sales. Each car will enjoy its own exterior color and features like Anniversary Yellow wheel and side strake accenting, white and black Duotone seat panels, side sill plaques identifying the era the car relates to, and Works Anniversary badging.
