Mercedes-Benz’s recent teaser sketch for a new mid-size pickup truck was no April Fools’ Day stunt, with the German automaker since confirming that the vehicle is headed for launch towards the end of the decade as a rival to the likes of the Ford... So far, the Mercedes pickup has only been confirmed for the Australian, European, Latin American and South African markets, but there’s still the chance we’ll see it in local showrooms. Speaking with Automotive News (subscription required), Mercedes’s U. S. chief Steve Cannon said a decision on local sales of the new pickup will be made by the end of the year, and if given the green light for this market the vehicle would be... In line with this positioning, the vehicle would be sold in all Mercedes dealerships, not just the ones currently offering the automaker’s existing commercial vehicles like the Sprinter and upcoming Metris. Cannon explained that pickups are popular in some affluent suburbs—with Greenwich, Connecticut getting a mention—and that these vehicles aren’t being used for work purposes. As for what will underpin the vehicle, Mercedes has confirmed that it will develop the platform together with alliance partner Renault Nissan, which will use the platform for a next-generation version of its own NP300/Navara model. More data shows that Millennials don't like driving - Autoblog (blog)

Can the flip-flopping data on millennials and their driving habits be chalked up to lies, damned lies or statistics. Too bad Mark Twain isn't around to figure that out, because analysts can't seem to get a decent handle on whether millennials are spending more or less time in their cars than their predecessors among Generation X and Baby Boomers. The report takes a look at whether those driving habits are generation-specific and a result of a change in attitude (e. g. , more concern for the environment, greater use of public transportation or bikes, etc. ), or if they've been caused by different circumstances (e. g. , many millennials hit driving age around the time of the most recent recession, which would naturally reduce the amount of driving they would be doing). Either way, it may not only be a millennial thing, as driving levels started dropping off in the late 1990s with Generation X members. Of course, this report contradicts many of the findings in an MTV study posted earlier this year. That report noted that millennials are driving more than Baby Boomers and Gen-X-ers.
