If you’re thinking the Luton firm already has two superminis in the Adam and the Corsa, you would be right but the Viva is a very different proposition. While the Corsa is a traditional mass-market supermini, and the Adam a fashion statement, the Viva is for those with a keener eye than most on their purse strings. With a starting price of £7,995, the Viva undercuts even the cheapest five-door Corsa by more than £1,700, which is no small beer. But these are pretty talented cars and that’s before you get to the likes of the more expensive Seat Mii, Skoda Citigo, Citroën C1, Peugeot 108 or Toyota Aygo. It is no wonder the sector has doubled in size since 2004. The fact that 80 per cent of sales in this sector are on finance, and that you can get into a Viva from £99 a month, is all the convincing many customers will need. It might not be the best-looking car in the sector but it boasts some reasonably smart and clean lines. When Toyota went to the drawing board to design the 2016 edition of its HiLux, the Japanese carmarker specifically surveyed Australian owners of HiLux for the company to know what they needed to do to make the pickup even better. The Toyota HiLux is the most popular and common pickup truck in Thailand, followed only by the Mitsubishi Triton and the Ford Ranger. There are three main variants of the 2016 Toyota HiLux when it was launched last month as well as two different configurations – a single cab and a double cab. The 2016 Toyota HiLux comes in either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission but all models are running on an all-wheel drive because of the terrains in Thailand and Australia, where it is found to be quite ideal.
