The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro rides on a new chassis, has a vastly improved interior and, for the first time ever, a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine joins the engine range. This sixth-generation of Chevy’s muscle car doesn’t have a lock on the affordable sports car market, however. Despite the fact that we’re now living in the Crossover Era – because no one calls them SUVs anymore – this also happens to be a fantastic time for fans of American cars that are high on style and big on horsepower. Don’t wax too nostalgic, because while the selection is smaller, today’s muscle car field is faster and, in pretty much every tangible way, infinitely better to drive than the 1960s originals – though we’d still take a Plymouth Superbird any day... The Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger haven’t been standing still, waiting for Chevy to get it together and streak past them with the latest Camaro. So before we can actually put these three head-to-head (-to-head) on a road or racetrack, we wanted to see how they stack up in terms of spec sheets, past driving experience, and the all important curb-side ‘wow factor. Here’s our first impression and initial take as to which car rules the muscle car landscape.
