California boutique automaker US Specialty Vehicles (USSV) is now selling a military-style truck called the Rhino GX. The massive SUV is built on a Ford F-450 chassis and features an up-armored style that might cause an MRAP to give it the right... It's not actually bulletproof or bombproof, but has a steel and composite body that company founder Tim Tang says has millions of dollars of engineering work behind it. The seven-and-a-half-foot tall, eight-foot wide truck rides on 38-inch tires... Two and three-row seating layouts are available, including one that is essentially a rolling screening room with rear-facing second row recliners and large flat-screen TV. The vehicle was developed with export to China in mind, and is sold there... Although the Rhino GX is on sale now, the company is planning a more formal debut at the SEMA show in Las Vegas this fall, where it will also be introducing its second, and perhaps more intriguing model with its own brand of military roots. Ford Motor Company announced Wednesday it was recalling nearly 600,000 cars and crossover SUVs, led by a notice to certain Ford car owners who could encounter sudden power steering loss linked to the heavy use of road salts in areas of the U. S.... “Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 520,000 2013-15 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles and certain 2015 Ford Edge vehicles in corrosion states and provinces in North America,” the company said in a statement. Automakers tend to voluntarily issue recalls to avoid the bad publicity that emerges when the U. S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) demands safety-related recalls. Ford bundled three other recalls in Wednesday’s announcement, led by a notice covering about 50,000 recent-model-year Focus compact cars, Edge crossovers, Escape compact crossovers, Transit Connect vans and Ford Fiesta hatchbacks for a problem... SA clinical trial could help ALS patients - KSAT San Antonio

It's a devastating disease with no cure, but a clinical trial happening now at San Antonio's UT Health Science Center could increase the life span of ALS patients. "I canceled all my patients so I could be here," Dr. Walter Root told his team of doctors at the UT Health Science Center. So when he found out about a new clinical trial in which a device is implanted in the diaphragm of ALS patients to improve breathing and life span, he signed up immediately. "This device is FDA-approved but has never been formally tested in a clinical trial in ALS patients," said Dr. Carlayne Jackson, a UTHSC neurologist, who is leading the trial. Jackson said it's been estimated the device could increase ALS sufferers' life spans by 16 to 24 months, but this trial could provide scientific proof that by comparing the results to other patients who do not receive the device. She's working with Dr. Kent Van Sickle, a general surgeon who implanted one of the devices in Root two weeks ago. So there's two that we put on each diaphragm side, and the leads come out through a tiny incision in the upper abdomen and it's basically connected to this coupling device, which is connected to the machine to pace the diaphragm," Van Sickle said.
