I got the pleasure of putting a few hundred miles on the 2014 Toyota Tundra at the launch earlier this year and while I was impressed by the new model during normal daily driving – the true measure of a proper full size pickup is the ability to do... While many people might review the 2014 Toyota Tundra based on its abilities to drive 20 miles across the city or to head on a fishing trip that doesn’t have the truck leaving paved roads, the Tundra that was delivered to my house recently was in... EDITOR WES RAYNAL: Somebody in the office quipped that if you want to know how good the new Chevrolet Silverado is, drive the new Toyota Tundra . I don't think the Tundra is a bad truck per se, but it's not as good as the Silverado. Mostly that's down to little refinement details. I like the Toyota's refresh. The interior is huge front and rear and while the materials themselves could use an upgrade, the interior is well assembled and comfort levels are there. Toyota says this beast can tow more than 10,000 pounds, and I have no reason to doubt it. On the road, one thing that stood out to me was that the brakes felt a little grabby or touchy, but that could have been due to the weather and the awful... So back to the refinement: The Silverado just has that little bit more: The Chevy's (or GMC's) chassis feels a lot stiffer, while the Tundra jiggles a little and shudders over road imperfections more than the Silverado. The Silverado's cabin has better materials, and it's a lot quieter out on the freeway than the Toyota in terms of wind noise. Like I said, little details push the Silverado beyond the Toyota. I'd bet there's probably no automotive category with customer loyalty/return customer levels like the full-size pickup market. Seems to me you're a Chevy guy, a Ram guy , a Ford F-150 guy…That's what you buy, and when it wears out, you buy another one. Source: autoweek.com

Test Drive: Toyota Tundra seriously better for 2014 - USA TODAY

The progenitor, called T100, was too small and had no V-8. It lasted from 1993 to 1998. The bigger first-generation Tundra, with optional V-8, was still considered a bit undersized for "real" truck buyers. It lasted from 2000 to 2006. Then the real Tundra — big, beefy-looking and a super-size V-8. What could go wrong. That Tundra was launched as a 2007 model, welcomed by a recession that viciously destroyed, among other things, truck sales. Tundra sales bottomed out at 79,385 in 2009, Autodata figures show. After all that, here comes the 2014 Tundra, a significant update that Toyota says is sufficiently different to anoint it the third-generation Tundra. Of course, Toyota called the 2012 Camry "all-new" even though it was, at most, an update. The 2014 Tundra models have the same wheelbases and cargo-bed dimensions as the 2013. Exterior measurements don't vary by more than about an inch. Interior room is an inch less here, an inch more there. Payload ratings have declined, ranging from 1,255 pounds to 2,040 pounds, depending on configuration, down from the 2013's 1,450 to 2,090 pounds. The new Tundra goes into production at Toyota's San Antonio plant this month and should be at dealers later in August. The economy's edging back, and there's a sales boom among full-size pickups, so Tundra's got. Source: www.usatoday.com
