First drive: 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road - Digital Trends

You’d be forgiven in thinking that Toyota’s mid-size Tacoma truck wouldn’t garner much attention, particularly since pickup culture has always leaned towards bigger and meaner. Designed more for roughhousing than for work, yet still capable, Toyota’s 2016 Tacoma is the badass mid-size truck you didn’t know you really wanted. Coming in a few flavors, from the bare-bones SR to the more fanciful Limited, the TRD Off-road is the model meant for those who seek out mud and dust. Dune raider Toyota’s overall mission statement for the 2016 Tacoma was to make it “badass,” and the first step was making the mid-size truck look as mean as its big brother, the Tundra. The Tacoma gets another Tundra hand-me-down in the form of the three-piece bumper system that makes swapping out damaged components cheaper and easier. TRD Sport models get a signature hood scoop (that is sadly just for show) as well as sharing a plastic front underbody guard with the Limited and SR trims. The truck comes in three new colors as well: Blazing Blue Pearl, Inferno, and the unique Quicksand, which conveys a sense of specificity. CHP seeks pickup involved in fatal Sutter County collision in June - Sacramento Bee

The California Highway Patrol is asking the public's help in locating a pickup truck involved in a fatal crash in Sutter County in June. A man, with a female passenger, was riding a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Highway 20 east of Lytle Road, traveling in the left lane, as a pickup southbound on Lytle Road made a left turn onto eastbound Highway 20. The motorcycle struck the... The pickup driver left the scene immediately after the collision. As of Thursday, CHP officials said the driver of the pickup and the vehicle had not been positively identified. Evidence recovered at the collision scene and witness statements indicate the vehicle was a 2001 to 2004 white Toyota Tacoma pickup, with “TRD-Toyota Racing Development” emblems on the sides, according to the CHP. It may have damage to the left rear quarter panel, left rear light assembly, rear bumper and rear tail gate. They ask anyone with information regarding the suspect vehicle, or who may have seen it on Lytle Road prior to the collision, to call the Yuba Sutter CHP office at 530-674-5141. The driver of a mattress box truck, 33-year-old Rambaran Hemankumar, and his passenger, 20-year-old Juan Soto, both of Queens, were killed in the crash, which occurred shortly before 10 a. m. , state police said. The two were traveling in the northbound right lane of the Thruway and cut across two lanes, hitting another box truck and a pickup truck before crossing the guardrail into oncoming traffic, where they were hit by a tractor-trailer near Exit 14B,... Hemankumar was cut out of the truck and taken in extremely critical condition to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Police said the drivers of the pickup truck and second box truck were not injured. One of the pickup truck’s three passengers, a 12-year-old, was being treated at the Suffern hospital, but would likely be released before the end of the day. Police closed the Thruway between Exits 15 and 14B. The closure left numerous cars and trucks stuck behind the accident while police investigated the scene. It wasn’t until around 2:30 p. m. that police began to allow those drivers stuck behind the crash to turn around, head north in the southbound lanes and get off the Thruway at Exit 15.
