2015 Toyota Fortuner SUV revealed01:57 - Cars Guide

Toyota Fortuner set to take on Everest, MU-X, Challenger and Colorado 7 in the Australian ute-based SUV segment. Toyota has taken the wraps off the all-new second-generation Fortuner today, with the HiLux-based SUV being revealed simultaneously in Bangkok and Sydney. Under that bonnet will be the same 2. 8-litre 1GD-FTV turbodiesel from the new HiLux and upcoming Prado update. Like the HiLux, the130kW unit will produce 450Nm in six-speed manual guise, but 420Nm with the six-speed torque converter automatic. Toyota has confirmed that all Australian Fortuners will be four-wheel drive, and expects manual models to return less than 8. 0L/100km on the combined cycle. The Fortuner’s full-size spare wheel is mounted under the rear, limiting undercarriage space to an 80-litre fuel tank – unlike the Prado’s 150-litre dual-tank setup. The Fortuner does beat the Prado for ground clearance by 5mm, with a running figure of 225mm also beating the Kluger by a full 25mm. Like Toyota’s existing off-roaders, the Fortuner carries a 700mm wading depth rating. Source: www.carsguide.com.au

Rafters save Hilux driver after failed river cross - The Canberra Times

Kayakers have come to the rescue of an elderly man who tried to drive his Toyota Hilux through the Murrumbidgee River at Williamsdale. ACT Policing were called to the river at Angle Crossing Road at 9. 45am after the 75-year-old, detouring from an earlier accident on the Monaro Highway, was left stranded in fast moving flood water. "With flood waters rising and emergency vehicles en route, professional kayakers on scene were able to use their safety equipment to rescue the man who had managed to get on the roof of the car," a police statement said. Police strongly urged motorists to obey all safety warnings and to not drive through flood waters. A crash on the Monaro Highway around 8am led to four people being taken to hospital with a range of injuries, including chest, abdominal and leg injuries. Source: www.canberratimes.com.au

New vehicle sales continued to grow in February, with sales up 8% over the same period last year – and the strongest since 1984. It was the strongest February for passenger vehicles since 1989 and the highest sales month for commercials ever... The Toyota Corolla was the top-selling passenger car (302 registrations), followed by the Mazda CX-5 (210) and Mazda3 (206). However, the Hilux light-commercial was the top-selling vehicle of any kind, clocking up 427 registrations. Sports utility vehicles (SUVs) remain the dominant vehicle type, accounting for 32% of all sales. Next are pickup trucks (20%) and small passenger cars (15%). Year to date, overall sales are up 10% on 2014. Drive electric relaunch. The New Zealand organisation formerly known as the Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (APEV) has been rebranded and relaunched as Drive Electric. The chairman of Drive Electric is former BMW New Zealand managing director Mark Gilbert, who says that a key part of the group’s new strategy is to get more significant industry players together to bring EVs into the mainstream. “The mandate of Drive Electric is to deliver our members and stakeholders consistent, influential and financially sustainable advocacy for the accelerated, orderly uptake of EVs in New Zealand,” Mr Gilbert says.
