The self-made business mogul and philanthropist from Mentor was known as much for his plain-spoken, Carhartt-wearing lack of pretension as for his financial acumen and generosity. He also had a love of "big boy toys," as those things are known, from vintage vehicles to farm equipment, and the means to indulge it. A year after his death last June , at age 92, the remarkable collection Osborne amassed is being sold at auction... Everything must go. The collection -- stored mostly in a climate-controlled garage in Mentor and including more than 40 vehicles -- is quirky enough to defy description. "It's just stuff he had accumulated," said his oldest son, Richard "Rick" Osborne. "It's an eclectic collection," auctioneer Barry Densmore said. Only 90 were built, Densmore said, and the model has been made even rarer by metal-on-woodframe construction that left the vehicle more vulnerable to the elements. "He drove it," Densmore said. Stored nearby was a Cleveland-built White Motor open bus from 1924 that would have been used to ferry tourists around national parks. "It could be in a museum," Densmore said.
