Porsche's Panamera e-Hybrid is worth the hype - Straits Times

As the name implies, a plug-in hybrid's batteries can be recharged via an electric socket. With this external power source, plug-in hybrids offer emission-free motoring over a reasonably long distance and with decent performance. At least that is the case with the Porsche Panamera e-Hybrid, the first plug-in hybrid car in Singapore. Alongside its 3-litre 333bhp supercharged V6 is a 95bhp electric motor powered by a 9. 4kWh lithium-ion battery pack. In this mode, Porsche says the car can cover 36km, with a top speed of 135kmh. It does not feel sluggish when running on battery power alone, which is completely unexpected of a 2. 1-tonne car propelled by a 95bhp motor. When battery power falls to the last quarter mark, the V6 kicks in. When the engine is employed, the batteries are recharged, as is the case with conventional hybrids. This makes the Porsche an ideal vehicle for Singapore, as most drivers clock only about 50km a day. Park and plug in and, by lunchtime, the batteries are fully charged - it takes less than four hours to do so, compared with up to 12 hours for full-electric cars. Source: www.straitstimes.com

Porsche to unveil plug-in hybrid car - CNNMoney

Porsche will unveil a new plug-in hybrid version of its Panamera four-door car at the Shanghai Motor Show in China later this month. It will be Porsche's first plug-in hybrid car. Prices for the Panamera e-Hybrid will start at $99,000. The German automaker currently has two hybrid models already in production, versions of the Panamera and Cayenne SUV, but this will be the first that can be plugged in to charge its batteries... The Panamera e-Hybrid is part of an expansion of the Panamera line-up which will now also includes larger extended-wheelbase versions of the car which are almost six inches longer than the base model. While the extended wheelbase models were created primarily for the Chinese market, Porsche spokesman Calvin Kim said they will be available for customers in the U. S. With a 95 horsepower electric motor in addition to 3. 0-liter V6 gasoline... It will have an all-electric driving range of about 20 miles on a full charge, which will power it for about two-and-a-half hours, according to Porsche. It will be able to drive at speeds up 84 miles per hour in all-electric mode. Using all available power, it will be able to go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 5. 2 seconds with a top speed of 167 mph.
