Driver in fatal crash avoids prison sentence - Jakarta Post

Christopher Daniel Sjarief, a 24-year-old who caused the death of four people and injured several others in a series of collisions, walked away on Thursday after the South Jakarta District Court handed him a one-and-a-half year suspended prison... 20, Christopher, the son of a wealthy businessman, lost control of a Mitsubishi Outlander belonging to his friend and crashed into two motorcyclists on the congested Jl. Sultan Iskandar Muda in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta. After crashing into the motorcycles, he continued to drive at a high speed and hit two cars and two other motorcyclists, 500 meters from the scene of the initial crash. During the trial, it was revealed that Christopher’s family had provided financial compensation to a number of survivors and widows of the victims in exchange for an amicable written agreement. 2009-2011 Mitsubishi Outlander used car review - Drive

In Mitsubishi's case (and it was hardly alone in this) the response was to pull some cost from the cars it was making. The current-model Outlander is a great example of this and its interior presentation and materials are the big giveaway that somebody was watching the bottom line more closely than usual (if that were possible). Which means that if you don't necessarily want a brand-new Outlander, then a slightly used one from the previous series might be the way to go. The pick of those are the last of the ZH series which was facelifted in 2009, adopting a more... Yes, dropping all-wheel-drive is a great way to reduce production costs, but it also makes the vehicle lighter, reduces fuel consumption and makes more of what the engine delivers. The thing you need to get your head around, of course, is that a butch looking thing like an SUV appears as though it could cross deserts but, in two-wheel-drive form, can't. But really, unless you make annual trips to the snowfields, do you really need an SUV for its all-wheel-drive capability when even the versions will all four wheels driven still pull up a long way short of a proper off-road vehicle. That said, the majority of Outlanders from this period were, indeed, all-wheel-drive and it was only the later models that really started to leverage the two-wheel-drive advantage. WASHINGTON — Mitsubishi Motors North America is recalling five 2007 and 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander SUVs because during servicing, they were repaired with replacement transfer case assemblies whose oil seal may come out of position, according to the... "If the oil seal dislodges, automatic transmission fluid may enter the transfer case assembly, reducing the ATF pressure in the transmission, resulting in poor transmission shifting or the inability of the vehicle to be driven, increasing the risk... "Although no vehicles sold in the U. S. had the inappropriately machined transfer assemblies installed during production, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. found that the subject transfer assemblies were sold in the U. S. as service parts and installed in a total of five vehicles," the automaker said in a document filed with NHTSA. In February 2013, Mitsubishi received a customer complaint in Japan regarding a situation where the automatic transmission warning light illuminated during vehicle operation and speeds could not exceed 20 mph.
