"If the oil seal dislodges, automatic transmission fluid may enter the transfer case assembly, reducing the ATF pressure in the transmission, resulting in poor transmission shifting or the inability of the vehicle to be driven, increasing the risk... "Although no vehicles sold in the U. S. had the inappropriately machined transfer assemblies installed during production, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. found that the subject transfer assemblies were sold in the U. S. as service parts and installed in a total of five vehicles," the automaker said in a document filed with NHTSA. In February 2013, Mitsubishi received a customer complaint in Japan regarding a situation where the automatic transmission warning light illuminated during vehicle operation and speeds could not exceed 20 mph.
