Large field assembled for Gold Rush Rally - Drivesouth

Today's penultimate round of the New Zealand Rally Championship (NZRC), the Gold Rush Rally Coromandel, will play host to the biggest field assembled in more than 10 years. The Whitianga-based event will see 36 championship cars crossing the start ramp this morning. The nine stages will run to a near identical format to last year and championship leaders Ben Hunt and Tony Rawstorn will be keeping an eye out for the roadside rock that cost them a chance of victory in 2014. After their Subaru Impreza punctured... Chasing him will be 2014 winners Phil Campbell and his partner Venita Fabbro in their Mitsubishi Evo 9. Further competition within the top five will come from Te Aroha's Lance Williams and Raymond Bennet (Subaru WRX R4) and the fourth-seeded... The classic Mazda RX-7 of Marcus van Klink and Dave Neill rounds out the top five. They will start in front of Andrew Hawkeswood and Jeff Cress in a Mazda2. She's looking forward to participating in the Whitianga-based event for the first time, backing up from her fifth place at June's Rally of Gisborne. Are you tired of my RX-8 reports yet. If you secretly nodded your head in agreement, then I have good news for you, because this will be the final one, in which I’ll try to recount the ups and downs of running Mazda’s last rotary sports car – until, hopefully, the next one comes up….... It was launched a year later than the RX-8, which is a coupe and has four doors. True, the Merc and its clones are perched much higher in terms of pricing and none adopted the rear suicide doors that did without the B-pillar, but you get the point. The RX-8 doesn’t just like a drink. it is the founding member of the AA institution for sports car engines. On the bright side, it doesn’t get that much worse when it gets a good pasting. Thus, since the tank and wallet are draining at nearly the same rate regardless of speed, better to indulge in it. That’s what it was made for after all, right. Well, it is made to drink oil as well. Why I bought it:. "After having to suffer the indignity of owning an Audi repmobile (owing to high motorway mileage and regular long journeys at the time) I was keen to move onto something that could inspire a bit more excitement. Something that I'd actually look forward to driving. "The brief was fairly simple - petrol, manual, under seven seconds to 60. A raft of popular hot hatches came to mind including the Cupra R, Civic Type R, and the Focus ST. But the more I thought about it, the more I fancied something rear... That narrowed the options fairly spectacularly to either an RX-8 or an E46 330Ci. I deliberated for months before deciding that the Mazda was the way to go. I preferred the styling and the image of the RX-8, plus the greater focus on cornering... Once that decision was made, there was only one spec to look for - it had to be the PZ. For only £1,500 more than a similar condition standard car, you get Eibach springs, Bilstein dampers, a Prodrive exhaust (which sounds a little 'gruffer' than... "I spent a LONG time researching the ins and outs of RX8 ownership. I'd thoroughly recommend the PZ to anyone who enjoys the thrill of driving over straight line pace. It loves to be revved, and given that all the fun happens between 6,000 and 9,000 rpm, it constantly eggs you on to push it and make progress. Source: www.pistonheads.com
