Ferdinand Piech, chairman of the VW Group, has resigned. Piech will be remembered, rightly, as a titan of industry, and the most important figure in the German car world since, well, since the men responsible for the original Beetle. The other, the actual engineer who designed it, was Ferdinand Porsche - Ferdinand Piech’s grandfather. Why the fuss over Piech’s departure. He wasn’t even the day-to-day CEO of the Volkswagen Group. Hadn’t been since 2002. From then until now he has actually been chair of the supervisory board, a German structure that oversees the main management board but doesn’t directly run the company day-to-day. Let’s start with the engineering. An early personal project of his was to design the Porsche 917, one of history’s most successful and awesome race cars. But he immediately started an engineering consultancy. From this came the OM617 five-cylinder diesel engine for Mercedes. It was Merc’s first premium passenger-car diesel engine. Lamothe Jr. , 37, of Rumford Street in Concord, was arrested at 8:40 p. m. on Jan. 2, 2015, for driving after revocation or suspension, disobeying an officer, and a bench warrant. Lamothe was reportedly driving a Hyundai Santa Fe without its lights illuminated on Loudon Road. He also had a nonappearance in court bench warrant and was arrested. He’s due in Concord District Court on Feb. Picard , 52, a homeless man now located in Concord, received a summons at 8:14 p. m. on Jan. Picard reportedly told officers he was looking for a friend’s house but got lost and later, urinated in the driveway. Haley Naughton , 21, of Keeble Street in Plymouth, received a summons at 1:20 p. m. on Jan. An employee alleged that Naughton failed to enter in the correct price on items in the self-service scan aisle, allegedly ringing in 16 items as bananas and only paying $18. 79 for more than $72 worth of items. Corey , 21, a homeless man from Concord , was arrested at 1:20 a. m. on Jan. He was arrested as a passenger in a vehicle that failed to stop at a red light on Pleasant Street. The region also saw blizzards in 2003 and 2006 — both over Presidents Day weekend. And who can forget February 2010. It snowed almost 22 inches Feb. 5-6, then another nearly 16 inches on Feb.
