The car company has waged a war against spiders with its new hot-hatch, the Focus RS. A spider screen will be fitted in the new Focus, which makes its way to Australia next year, and it will keep the eight-legged creatures out of your car’s cabin,... In 2004, Ford implemented a similar technology, exclusively to the US, to help deter pesky yellow sac spiders, which are known to love lurking in engine bays and leave cocoons that block fuel vapour lines. “We are constantly improving and adapting, even when it comes to technologies that are already working,” said Ford fuel systems engineer William Euliss. Another Ford fuel systems engineer, David Gimpy, said he began looking into how to keep spiders out of vehicles back in 1999, before coming up with his original 2004 solution. Spiders blocking fuel lines is actually a serious issue in the motoring world, resulting in recalls of hundreds of thousands of cars over the years.
