Seventy-two entries will start Saturday's Catlins Coast Rally which starts from Owaka Motors in Owaka at 9am. Bond of Balclutha, the 2009 and 2011 victor, will be the top seed in his Mitsubishi EVO 6. 5 as he seeks his third win in his home event. At four is Deane Buist of Christchurch in a Ford Escort, a former winner of this event in a Mitsubishi EVO, and fifth last year in the Escort. Regan Ross of Kaikoura is next up in another Escort, followed by Derek Ayson of Gore at six in his Nissan powered Ford Escort fitted with a rebuilt motor after a failure at the Otago Rally earlier in the year. Ayson has twice finished third overall in 2-wheel-drive cars in this event and has also won it in a 4-wheel-drive. Now, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued two updates to Mazda's recalls. And on that note: if you own a Mazda that was registered or sold in Florida, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico and already had it fixed under the prior recall, you need to pay another visit to the dealership. Though Mazda has said that it will replace passenger-side airbags as well, those devices are technically part of another recall, which hasn't been updated by NHTSA. Mazda hasn't yet indicated when it will mail recall notices to owners, giving them the green light to take their vehicles in for repairs.   This review was written when the 2008 Mazda B-Series was new.

  The B-Series is a basic hauler with good off-road abilities and low ownership costs, but can't match the interior room, standard features, and style of others in its class.

  Our analysis determines the 2008 Mazda B-Series is a basic way to haul lighter loads on a budget. Mazda introduced the B-Series pickup truck to the United States in 1972, and most recently redesigned it in 2002. For 2008, very little has changed, though Mazda has dropped the mid-level B3000 model. The B-Series now comes in two models: the B2300 and B4000. The B2300 comes only as a two-door Regular Cab, while the B4000 comes only as a four-door Cab Plus. There are also three trim levels -- the base, Dual Sport and SE -- which vary by model. The B2300 comes in rear-wheel drive, while the B4000 comes with four-wheel drive.

  The B-Series is almost identical to its platform mate, the Ford Ranger, with only slight styling and interior feature differences. While the Ranger isn't a reviewer favorite, it and the B-Series have the best fuel economy ratings in the class. If you're in the market for a pickup truck, you should keep in mind the styling, practicality and performance capabilities of a Toyota Tacoma or Nissan Frontier.

  Recently purchased, so far so good. Fun little truck that is great on fuel. With today's fuel prices, I was looking for a compact truck for light work that was easy on gas. I found it!

  2.3L engine. This little truck is great on fuel. Comfortable seats. MP3 input.

  Exterior styling. Mazda has not changed the look in several years.
