No, when it comes to energy, I often quote, sometimes with attribution, the Manhattan Institutes Robert Bryce : what the world needs now is cheap, abundant energy, period, full stop, end of discussion. It has side panels made of plexiglass, presumably to keep rocks from pelting you as you're traveling at mach one. That's because the design brief for the Atom was to build a modern interpretation of the classic Lotus Seven, so a car that is as bare bones as possible with performance that will beat up on cars that cost 10 times as much. The Atom is easily the quickest car that I've ever been in. There is no turbolag, there is pull in every part of the rev range. It takes a few runs through the gears to process how to drive the car. It actually adjusts the way you think and the way you drive. A lot of turbo cars lose thrust as they near redline, not the Atom. It takes a mental adjustment to learn that it's making power until 7,800 and you're ok to shift then. It's a car that doesn't react best to a gentle touch, you need to be aggressive with how you shift, accelerate, and generally drive it. There are also sensations that come from acceleration in an Atom that you just don't find elsewhere. The air intake is right next to your right ear, where it makes sounds like a freight train whistle and creates a low pressure zone that sucks your brain out of your ear. Even with a windshield -- a luxury compared to other Atoms -- the Atom is a raw as can be. It all adds up to an experience that is unlike anything this side of a motorcycle, without the chance that you'll fall off. Source: www.roadandtrack.com

Mazda has reintroduced sedan variants of the Mazda2 after an absence of about four years. The new sedan may account for as little as 10 per cent of Mazda2 sales – around 1300 sedans, based on last year’s VFACTS figures. However, Honda’s City sold over 2700 last year – setting a benchmark for the Mazda2 sedan to match. Mazda was on a winner with its 121 sedan back in 1990. Anyone over 30 will remember the TV commercial – with a girlfriend tipping a bucket of water on her boyfriend from an upstairs window as he washed the car in street, all to the music of The... While the 121 sedan was a hit at the time, it was probably the last occasion a light sedan left an impression of that kind in the psyche of the Australian car-buying public. Since then hatchbacks have become the dominant force in the light car segment, despite being noisier than sedans and frequently lacking boot space. They’re (very) slightly easier to park, and you can actually transport a 120L bar fridge in the back of one with the seats folded down, as I know from personal experience. The Mazda2 sedan won’t cart around a bar fridge, but it does provide plenty of luggage capacity – 440 litres – for porta-cots and prams, so it’s a serious consideration for small families. The 60/40 split-fold seats fold down for even more volume by yanking on two cable releases in the boot. Source: thenewdaily.com.au
