" That's the first sentence in the logbook of our Four Seasons Lexus GS430, and it's a pretty bold statement to make when your audience is a bunch of automotive journalists with an uncanny ability to ferret out a vehicle's hidden flaws. Completely redesigned for the 2006 model year, the third-generation Lexus GS features updated styling both inside and out, a new suspension system, upgraded safety features, and a host of advanced electronic systems. All-wheel drive is also newly available, a first for a Lexus sedan, but only on the V-6-equipped GS300. Sounds great so far. For our test, we opted for the rear-wheel-drive GS430, which is powered by a 300-hp V-8 paired to a six-speed manu-matic transmission. The base GS430 comes nicely equipped with traction and stability control, heated and power-adjustable leather seats, wood interior trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and a seven-inch... The base price is $51,775. We, of course, specified several options, among them run-flat tires, a Mark Levinson audio/navigation system ($4030. ), and rain-sensing wipers, which brought the total to a whopping $58,814. A Rutherford man faces up to five years in prison after he admitted on Wednesday that he was speeding and driving drunk when he fatally struck a mother of four as she was walking home from work. Victor Kwak, 24, said at a hearing in Superior Court in Hackensack that he had several drinks before he got into his 2006 Lexus GS430 and began driving home around 7:40 p. m. on Aug. He said he then lost control of the car and crashed into a tree and a lamppost before striking Sandra Munoz-Molina, 28, of Carlstadt. Kwak also admitted that he was driving well over the 25 mph speed limit on Railroad Avenue in East Rutherford. Authorities said at the time that Munoz-Molina, who was walking along Railroad Avenue when she was hit, suffered severe head injuries from the crash and died later in the hospital. Kwak, who remains free on $75,000 bail, was initially charged with aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide. He pleaded guilty Wednesday to a second-degree charge of vehicular homicide and another charge of driving while intoxicated. Relatives said at the time that Munoz-Molina worked at a nearby beauty shop and dreamed of opening her own salon with her sisters. Kwak originally was charged with aggravated assault by auto, but a grand jury in Hackensack indicted him on more serious aggravated manslaughter charges after reviewing the facts of the case. Defense attorney John Latoracca said the grand jury took its action based on the belief that Kwak may have been using his cellphone at the time of the crash. However, Kwak may have provided that evidence himself, the judge said, when he told police responding to the crash that he’d had “a few beers” and was “trying to talk to my girlfriend. “In looking at the transcript [of grand jury proceedings], there is a lot more here than is being said, and this determination should be reserved for trial,” Jerejian said. The black box on Kwak’s Lexus clocked him at 57 miles an hour in a 25mph zone just before the crash, Delaney told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. Prosecutors also have an eyewitness, as well as another resident who reported seeing Kwak speed by from his porch, hearing the crash and running to the scene, he said. Source: cliffviewpilot.com
