A Rutherford man faces up to five years in prison after he admitted on Wednesday that he was speeding and driving drunk when he fatally struck a mother of four as she was walking home from work. Victor Kwak, 24, said at a hearing in Superior Court in Hackensack that he had several drinks before he got into his 2006 Lexus GS430 and began driving home around 7:40 p. m. on Aug. He said he then lost control of the car and crashed into a tree and a lamppost before striking Sandra Munoz-Molina, 28, of Carlstadt. Kwak also admitted that he was driving well over the 25 mph speed limit on Railroad Avenue in East Rutherford. Authorities said at the time that Munoz-Molina, who was walking along Railroad Avenue when she was hit, suffered severe head injuries from the crash and died later in the hospital. Kwak, who remains free on $75,000 bail, was initially charged with aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide. He pleaded guilty Wednesday to a second-degree charge of vehicular homicide and another charge of driving while intoxicated. Relatives said at the time that Munoz-Molina worked at a nearby beauty shop and dreamed of opening her own salon with her sisters. Defense attorney John Latoracca said Kwak has been extremely remorseful since the crash. Source: www.northjersey.com
