Parmi les voitures abordables, la Kia Rwio s’est fait un nom depuis longtemps. Cette année, Kia a apporté à sa gamme Rio des modifications esthétiques mineures qui touchent surtout les pare-chocs avant et arrière ainsi que le tableau de bord. Dans l’habitacle, la qualité des plastiques est généralement très bonne pour la catégorie. Dans la console centrale, juste sous le tableau de bord, on trouve deux prises de 12 volts, un port USB et une prise auxiliaire. Et juste sous ces prises, les designers ont créé une dépression pour loger un iPhone. Sous le capot de toutes les Rio niche un quatre cylindres de 1,6 litre développant 137 chevaux et 123 lb-pi de couple. Le 0-100 km/h demande plus de 10 secondes, ce qui est la norme pour ce type de voiture. Depuis cette année, Kia injecte davantage de matériau isolant dans certaines parties du châssis, ce qui, en pleine accélération, a un effet bénéfique pour la santé des tympans. Son embrayage manque un peu de tonus, le levier pourrait procurer une meilleure sensation, mais il existe bien pire ailleurs. Lors de notre semaine d’essai, notre consommation moyenne s’est établie à 7,2 l/100 km. C’est trop. Il faut cependant avouer que la plupart des sous-compactes ne sont pas des modèles de consommation. Dès ses débuts, elle a été offerte en version hatchback , pragmatiquement baptisée 5. Comme dans Rio5. Les modifications esthétiques de cette année touchent surtout les pare-chocs avant et arrière et, selon moi, n’ajoutent pas grand-chose à la voiture. Le tableau de bord a été revu et, encore là, il faut avoir l’œil pour voir les différences. En fait, tous les éléments sont demeurés au même endroit, confirmant qu’il ne s’agit que d’une révision esthétique mineure. Même le représentant de Kia a été étonné d’apprendre ça. Peut-être était-ce dû aux réflexions de la carrosserie de couleur bleu urbain. Au-delà de ce détail, la qualité des plastiques est généralement très bonne pour la catégorie. Par contre, les inserts noir piano ont beau être très esthétiques, ils attirent la poussière comme c’est pas possible. Les commandes sont faciles à comprendre et tombent bien sous la main.
