Long Branch police say they seized thousands bags of heroin from a Paterson man last week in an arrest that might be Long Branch's largest drug bust in the past 20 years. Christopher "Choice" Schwartz, 43, of Paterson faces numerous charges after police arrested him last week and searched his Kia Optima, Long Branch Public Safety Director Jason Roebuck said in a news release. Inside the Kia, authorities found 5,359 bags of heroin with a street value of more than $40,000, Roebuck said. Schwartz faces multiple charges, including possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, first- and third-degree distribution of heroin, distribution of heroin within 500 feet of a park, distribution within 500 feet of federal housing, and... Hot on the heels of the 2011 Kia Optima's five-star safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the company has announced a recall of 70,115 Kia Optima sedans from the 2006, 2007, and 2008 model years. According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the shift cable in some Optimas with automatic transmissions may have an excess of tension. If the car is in a hilly area and the driver doesn't deploy the handbrake, the car could roll, causing damage to the car, the driver, exiting passengers, or anything else in the vehicle's path.
