FCA recalls over 200k Jeep Cherokees for windshield wiper static - Autoblog (blog)

- FCA US LLC is recalling an estimated 158,671 SUVs in the U. S. to help protect their control modules from static buildup that may potentially disable the vehicles' windshield wipers. An investigation by FCA US discovered static buildup may occur if the vehicles' windshield wipers are activated during dry conditions. Affected are model-year 2014 Jeep Cherokee SUVs. An estimated 18,366 vehicles will be recalled in Canada, as will an estimated 3,582 in Mexico and 26,049 outside the NAFTA region. Customers with concerns may call the FCA US Customer Information Center at 1-800-853-1403. ###. Completion-Rate Incentives. - FCA US LLC has begun contacting customers who are eligible for certain recall-completion incentives. Ranging from $100 prepaid cards to vehicle-repurchase plans, the incentives are designed to boost completion rates for certain ongoing recalls involving older SUVs and model-year 2009-2012 trucks, for which remedies were not immediately available. As the world (well, Australia anyway) rushes to buy compact and mid-sized SUVs, the concept of a full-sized off-road vehicle can start to look a bit like reheated left-overs. Given that the Jeep brand forged its reputation on the notion of going properly off-road, it's no surprise that a full-sized trail-breaker has remained in showrooms. For us, that's been the Grand Cherokee , a model that was launched here in 2011 and was immediately welcomed for its value for money. Despite that, however, the Grand Cherokee has continued to win friends and even expand its reach, largely by offering what most of the others won't or can't. While the latest Nissan Patrol is available only with a petrol engine, the grand Cherokee offered up plenty of choice. There was the three-litre turbo-diesel V6 , a 3. 6-litre petrol V6, a 5. 7-litre petrol V8 and the one everybody was talking about, the 6. 4-litre V8 petrol with a monumental 344kW and a super-car-like 0-100km/h time of five seconds dead. There were also hard-core off-roading versions with what Jeep called its Quadra-Drive all-wheel-drive system that gave extra traction in the bush, as well as a model called the SRT which was the version with all that horsepower. On Monday, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty announced indictments of five men in connection with a rash of robberies and carjackings this summer. All of the suspects live in Cleveland. Kenneth Jackson, 18, Antowine R. Palmer, 22, Tervon'tae Taylor, 22, D'Wan L. Dillard, 18, and Calvin Rembert, 22, were named in the 25-count indictment handed down by a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury. McGinty says different combinations of the suspects were behind four armed robberies and carjackings from July 25 to August 19. Some of them were arrested at Beachwood Place mall. We're going to put them away until they're old men," said McGinty. According to McGinty, the suspects took photos of themselves using stolen credit cards and driving the stolen vehicles. The victims were "innocent people walking to their cars after a night out," said McGinty. Jen Viscomi says she's proud to live in the Tremont neighborhood, but she is well aware of the recent crime that tagged along with the neighborhood's growth.
