2016 Jaguar XE Diesel UK-Spec Review - Automobile

There are enough challenging, fast curves and undulating pavement, especially near Jaguar’s Gaydon development center, to reveal a car’s chassis dynamics. Driving the new Jaguar XE briskly down this wonderful section of the Fosse makes it clear engineers have nailed the chassis setup. This is good news for Jaguar. The Indian-owned company sold just 15,773 cars in a strong U. S. market last year, down nearly 7 percent from 2013. Audi and Lexus each posted sales increases of about 15 percent. Even Maserati came within 3,000 cars of catching Jaguar’s U. S. sales in 2014. Our test car burned the fuel of choice for many European buyers: diesel. Jaguar offers U. K. buyers 163 hp and 180 hp versions of its new Ingenium 2. 0-liter turbodiesel I-4. We drove the more powerful of the two hitched to an eight-speed automatic. Yes, the diesel is coming to the U. S. We’ll get the top-spec XE S too, with the F-Type’s 340 hp, supercharged V-6 paired only to an automatic transmission. Let’s hope Jaguar sorts out the gasoline Ingenium engine because the diesel isn’t too impressive. The majority of XEs sold in our country will surely come with the gasoline 2. 0-liter turbocharged four once it finally makes it to production. Source: www.automobilemag.com

2016 Jaguar XE R-Sport review - Practical Motoring

The more overtly sporting models in the XE range continue a long Jaguar tradition of sporting saloons. The choice of engines in the R-Sport is the 2. 0-litre petrol engine in two different states of tune and a 2. 0-litre diesel while the more extreme S gets the 3. 0-litre V6 as found in the F-Type. The four-cylinder petrol engines (designated the 20t and 25t) share much of their technology with Ford’s EcoBoost, an engine we have always liked despite Ford’s almost criminal failure to promote it in the Falcon. Driving the 147kW R-Sport (we didn’t get into the 177kW version – we only drove the Prestige with this engine) amply demonstrated the delights of almost perfect 50:50 weight distribution and the superiority of double wishbone front suspension and... The electric power steering (a first for Jaguar) proved to be responsive and more communicative than many of its ilk. Like them, wind noise and other road noise was superbly isolated from the cabin. The mouth-watering S (pictured in the gallery below) gets the full-fruit 3. 0-litre supercharged V6 with a headlining 250kW and 450Nm. As you’d expect, it’s a real road-burner, thrusting driver and passenger back into the well-bolstered seats... Source: practicalmotoring.com.au

2016 Jaguar XF Review - CarAdvice

As a result, the new car is lighter by 190kg and stiffer by 28 per cent, allowing for better dynamics and ride control, according to Jaguar. It’s also more aerodynamic, with an exceptionally low Cd of just 0. 26 (down from 0. 29) – exactly the same as the smaller XE. Design-wise, it’s an all-round tougher look, though not at the expense of the previous model’s much loved elegance. In fact, Jaguar’s acclaimed director of design, Ian Callum, is already trumpeting the new XF as, “The most visually dynamic business car in the segment”. Though I’d argue the rear styling doesn’t quite have the same presence as the XF’s unmistakable Jaguar nose. Although shorter in length than the old car, the latest XF rides on a longer wheelbase, said to improve ride comfort as well as provide considerably more rear passenger space. Nor have they affected the car’s coupe-like design, thanks to the rear bench being set lower than on the previous version. The new XF range will be available in four trim levels: XF Prestige, XF R-Sport, XF Portfolio and XF S, although pricing and specification for Australian cars won’t be finalised until closer to the car’s local launch in late November.
