CINCINNATI -- A GPS tracking app helped Cincinnati police find valuable evidence in a robbery near the University of Cincinnati. The robbers were gone by the time police officers arrived, yet they were being followed: The app Find My iPhone led investigators to a victim's phone in the woods outside Murphy Pub on Clifton Avenue. The surveillance footage, police said, shows one robber get out of a white Hyundai, possibly an XG300 or XG350. He throws one phone, then another. Police said GPS tracking apps are becoming more valuable to locate stolen items. "Not only can you locate where your phone is, you can make it play a sound even if the phone is on silent and the ringer is turned down," Officer Steven Alexander said. "A lot of times, the victims just know its a good idea to download it on their phone, and as long as they remember their password, that's all they need to know about the device if we need it as law enforcement," Alexander said.
