2015 GMC Yukon XL Denali review notes - Autoweek

GMC’s big Yukon provides luxury and tons of function. Heck, you can even say that I like the Chevrolet Suburban , Cadillac Escalade and this 2015 GMC Yukon XL Denali. A couple of nights in it saw me using all the generous cargo space on a supply run for the family restaurant and then the following night I hauled five people to the movies in a snow storm. Both the second- and third-row of seats are power folding and fold flat. The next night it was off to see “Taken 3” with a car full of friends who enjoyed all the space and comfort in the Yukon XL Denali’s interior. Heated second-row seats were a hit and all the legroom was enjoyed, preventing people from being scrunched together. At no point during my two nights with this Denali did I test out the 6. 2-liter V8 because I never towed anything. For the restaurant supply run, I’m sure a minivan or something like a Ford Transit Connect or Nissan NV would have done the trick just fine. Sure, there are people who have boats or campers to tow and have a bigger family where something like this Yukon XL makes a lot of sense. In other cases it’s a luxury item for people who enjoy having something this big and plush, which is perfectly understandable. Source: autoweek.com

Full-size SUVs may never again scale the highest peaks of popularity like they did in the 1990s, but that doesn’t mean they’re irrelevant today. I just spent a week driving the Chevrolet Tahoe, one of the very few body-on-frame SUVs that hasn’t gone extinct, and it’s easy to see why drivers still fall in love with the capability of a truck like this — if you’re the right type of person. Its available off-road suspension package and 4x4 traction help it easily reach places that would make most family crossovers squeamish. Its tall, king-of-the-road, truck-like seating position is a plus for drivers who like that sort of thing. That said, General Motors took a long list of steps to bring the old-school Tahoe into the new-school era, where fuel economy and car-like handling qualities matter more than ever. The new design largely succeeds, improving the highway gas mileage by 10 percent without sacrificing capability — the whole reason people buy a Tahoe in the first place. With a high loading floor that eats into the volume, there’s just not a whole lot of room for road-trip luggage when the back seats are in place, which makes the Suburban seem considerably more appealing to me.
