As factories carefully calculate their downtime for changeover to new body forms and stamping templates and line workers learn new and slightly modified procedures, GM is keeping the 2013 lineup as simple and predictable as possible. Among the small changes in 2013 GM trucks, the Silverado half-ton will get two new colors: Deep Ruby Metallic and Blue Topaz Metallic. Likewise, the GMC Sierra half-tons will also get two new colors: Sonoma Red Metallic and Heritage Blue Metallic. ) This added feature can reduce brake rotor temperatures by more than 200 degrees on grade tests by downshifting transmission gears, thereby reducing brake applications during long downhill sections. But once upon a time, were it not for a fateful product planning decision somewhere inside General Motors, the original 1982-93 Chevrolet S-10 compact could have been replaced with a production version of the Chevrolet Sedona prototype seen here... A similar bed would later be offered and then abandoned in GM’s full-size pickups. Two ideas that never made it to production in any of GM’s U. S. -built trucks were small side steps positioned just ahead of the rear wheels to aid access to the cargo box and a unique forward-opening hood.
