NEW YORK ( MainStreet ) — "Green" cars are getting lots of publicity ahead of next week's Earth Day, but here's a look at 2015's "meanest" automotive models — those that the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy says are the worst for... "These are all either very heavy vehicles with poor fuel economy or very high-powered sports cars with big engines. That shoots them right to the top of the list," says Shruti Vaidayanathan of the council , a think tank that lobbies for ecofriendly U. S. policies. The council recently released its 18th annual Greener Car rankings , which analyzed all major 2015 vehicles for their lifetime pollution output, from manufacturing-related smog to tailpipe emissions. Models that the study dubbed as 2015's least ecofriendly are a mix of super-powerful sports cars and big vans, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. com , suggests consumers use the council study — which rates hundreds of 2015 models — to find the more-ecofriendly choices within a given automotive class. That's what Mercedes-Benz is selling with the 2015 Sprinter Van lineup. No newcomer to the segment, M-B has been in the truck business since building the first so-called truck, which was in fact, the Patent Motor Bus in 1896. It was followed in 1898 by the DMG truck that was capable of carrying up to five-metric tons. In addition to the Sprinter Van lineup, the company is deep into it, by way of their ownership of such legendary brands as Freightliner, Western Star, Thomas, Setra, BharatBenz, and Fuso. At the end of 2013, Daimler decided to get into the Customer Dedication style of vehicle through Mercedes-Benz Vans, which is now a separate division of MBUSA. Last year the Van division sold 270,000 units. Sprinter Vans are sold in the U. S at a network of 257 dealers as either Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner vehicles, and are identical in every way except for the logo and the grille. The M-B Sprinter Vans are now into their fourth generation.
