'Yaking to parts unknown - Louisiana Sportsman

--> Although likely to be seen near any popular fishing spot in Louisiana, there are still times when kayakers get even stranger looks. It’s that look of bewilderment when a powerboat fisherman comes across a kayak fisherman many miles from the nearest launch site. “Mothershipping” is using a powered vessel to carry a kayak or group of kayaks to areas not accessible by human power alone. The urge to fish areas unknown appeals to kayak fishermen, and mothershipping is the only viable way to do it. Enter the Miss Laney Lu, a 50-foot Gaudet aluminum houseboat christened early summer. The boat is captained by Greg Stretcher, and has been primarily used for group night-fishing trips, as well as a “floating hotel” for anglers who want a place to stay on the water near their fishing grounds. Greg saw another use for the Miss Laney Lu. The ample front deck looked perfect for stacking kayaks and taking them to places they have never been. Fourchon is the Lu’s home port and a popular destination for kayak fishermen. There’s a public boat launch and countless places to “combat launch” off of Highway 1. However, there’s always that desire to go farther and check out new waters. On a recent Friday morning, four kayak buddies dragged their ’yaks to Fourchon to make a maiden voyage to parts unknown. Heights High senior class picnic a fun celebration for all - The Killeen Daily Herald

More than a hundred residents attended the third annual Harker Heights High School senior class picnic Sunday afternoon, an event put on by the Knights of the Round Table to celebrate graduates’ success with the community. “It’s really to let them get a taste of what it takes to put on an event like this because it’s not easy,” said Pat Christ, a Harker Heights councilman, referring to the planning team’s efforts. Christ helped create the Knights of the Round Table, a joint HHHS and city planning group, which collaborates to plan events such as the senior class picnic. “They really put a lot of stock in what we think would be good (at these events),” said Alexander Fermin, a junior in the group. The “hamster ball” — an inflatable ball people can climb in and roll around — was one of many attractions at this year’s event. Sporadic volleyball and tug-o-war games sprouted up. And a raised inflatable platform with a wrecking ball attached to a string at the top was nearly always in use, as four or so students took turns trying to topple each other from their posts. Shebazz and her friends were one of the first groups to slam each other with the rock-like cushioned balls. Both Hill and Shebazz are dance team members. T&A Performance Skidplate for Protecting a Chevy DEF Tank - TruckTrend Network

There’s an important application for a diesel GM HD pickup in particular: shielding the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) tank. On ’11-and-later Chevy and GMC pickups, it’s mounted fairly low on the passenger-side framerail, and vulnerable to damage. If the DEF tank does get punctured, the engine computer can sense a lack of DEF and go into shut-down mode, leaving you stranded in a remote area. Although GM now includes a thin skidplate on later-model trucks, shielding the tank with heavy-gauge steel plate is cheap insurance, especially if you head off-road or visit gnarly work areas on a regular basis. While there are a few different designs available for the aftermarket, the ’11-and up DEF Tank Skidplate shown here is from T&A Performance ($599 in bare metal, plus shipping). Made from 3/16-inch hot-rolled steel, it’s secured with five, ¾-inch, Grade 8 bolts threaded into stainless steel sleeves that are welded to the underside of the passenger-side framerail. Although fairly straightforward in concept, fitting this skidplate in place requires some careful preparation and test-fitting before applying either paint or powdercoating to.
