But the new F-150’s newly-available little six uses twin turbochargers instead of more, larger cylinders, generating 325 horsepower and a manly 375 lb-ft of torque. When you leave the trailer at home and you’re just going to Sears, cruising the highway in no particular rush, or inching slowly through the Timmies drive-thru, engines like this one burn less gas in their smaller, fewer cylinders. Call it EcoBoost, twin-turbo, or whatever you like, but the principle is the same: off-loading power output to a turbocharger system lets engines drink less, more of the time. Drive gently, and the twin compressors quietly whistle and hiss the F-150 along from low revs, with minimal hunting for a lower gear, thanks to the mountain of torque available from right above idle. Remember: torque is the important figure when you’re moving something heavy, and this new little EcoBoost engine has heaps of it, from really, really low revs. And this is the little EcoBoost V6: a bigger one is available, with 3. 5 litres and twin-turbo making it 365 horses and over 400 lb-ft of off-idle torque. Ford has had some success with special-edition pickup trucks, and the Tremor is the latest, as well as the last created on the current F-150 platform before the truck switches to aluminum construction for 2015 . It represents a departure from... Don’t worry, this is not your garden-variety V-6. It’s the 3. 5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 that’s already dislodged many F-150 loyalists from their longstanding V-8 traditions. Turbo engines are torque monsters, and Ford’s 3. 5 huffs up plenty of it—420 lb-ft, ramping up steeply from just above idle, peaking at 2500 rpm, and sustaining that generous grunt most of the way to five grand. It’s a pretty good prescription for hustle in a hot street truck. Although it has decent ground clearance and the option of four-wheel drive (we tested both rear- and four-wheel-drive versions), the Tremor isn’t conceived as or equipped to be a desert racer. In the first scoring category, the Tremor measures up pretty well with its black 20-inch aluminum wheels, even better than pretty well when combined with the graphics package (although many of us weren’t fans of the truck in white). The Ford F150 is America’s bestselling truck and while there weren’t many changes for the 2013 model year F150, pretty much every change made for 2013 was featured on my F150 FX4 EcoBoost test vehicle – making for a very clear illustration of why... The most significant changes to the 2013 Ford F150 lineup are a new grille design, optional projection HID headlights and the inclusion of the MyFord Touch infotainment system – all of which were featured on my 2013 F150 FX4 SuperCab test truck. In fact, my 2013 FX4 test truck was fitted with pretty much every option shy of the sliding glass moon roof thanks to the inclusion of the 402A equipment group, the FX Appearance Package, navigation and the max trailer tow package. The 2013 Ford F150 SuperCab FX4 is an offroad sport truck that packs an aggressive dark design that isnt quite as eye catching as the SVT Raptor but as standard trucks go – the modern FX4 package is one of my favorites.
