Six different Ford spark plug lawsuits were consolidated to represent Ford owners across the U. S. Owners complain about spark plugs that can be impossible to remove after the plugs break and get stuck in the engine. The plaintiffs argue the spark plugs are prone to a residue that can cause the plugs to stick in the cylinder head and be nearly impossible to remove without breaking the plugs. 5.4L Triton V8-Powered Fords Called Over Idling Issue - autoevolution

Just recently Ford announced that some vehicles from the 2004 to the 2013 model years equipped with the eight-cylinder mill are due for a "free service" after owners complained about rough idling and ticking noises. First introduced back in 1997 on the tenth-generation Ford F-Series, the first iteration of the 5,408cc Triton V8 featured a two valve per cylinder design. In 1999, the first-generation Lincoln Navigator got a slightly better performing four valve per cylinder and double overhead camshaft variant of the powerplant. Only recently, the Blue Oval has identified a problem with the three and four valve per cylinder variants of the Modular family V8, advising owners to stop by their local dealership service departments as soon as possible. Vehicles affected are the 2004 - 2010 model year Ford F-150 pickup truck, the 2005 - 2013 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs, as well as the 2006 - 2008 Lincoln Mark LT luxury pickup. Owners are warned about the fault by a lit "check engine" light on the dash, but what's the actual problem with the V8. Well, Ford says that the culprits are defective cam-timing solenoids.   Here is a list of some of the well known problems we have corrected:

  The cylinder head spark plugs blowing out & stripping the threads: Drill all heads, re-weld the holes with new material & then re-drill & tap adding not only stronger material but also more threads then originally equipped.

  The cylinder head gasket failures: We install all new OEM multi layer steel head gaskets that are not as prone to failure from the high heat operating temperatures of this engine.

  Timing failures: We use all new OEM timing components in our rebuilds that include upgraded tensioners & guides to prevent chain slap & failure.

  Valve failures: We use all NEW valve train in each 5.4 Ford engine we build. New valves, locks, guides, seats, rockers & lifters are installed in every engine to eliminate valve train noise & failure.

  On top of that we have added many features that help to improve this engine above its factory counterpart.

  We install new hypereutectic  graphite coated pistons to end piston slap & bore wear once you get the high mileage on this vehicle.

  We have installed the oil pan & timing cover to reduce install time & included a new oil pump pickup also

  Like any of the miracles in a bottle, you have to follow the money to find out what and where the product has been. At one time it contained more Teflon than Slick 50. Teflon does not belong in any engine. Some have found out the hard way and have had oil journals plugged up from it stacking at oil journal corners. They have found themselves without a supplier as the maker will not sell it to them- it gives Teflon a bad name. What gas chromotography says is that it is an ester based fluid with a good dose of Chlorine. Chlorine has zero place in the oil or any other place on or in your vehicle. Combined with combustion materials it makes dandy hydrochloric acid. The gentleman behind the "science" is a marketeer. He has no expertise or knowledge of expertise in any oil related field or lubrication field- he just knows how to take yer money.
