Ford to assemble Ranger in Nigeria - The Weather Space

Ford is set to begin assembling the new Ranger in Nigeria later this year in a move that will bolster its presence on the continent, without any real negative impact on the South African plant. The additional plant in Ikeja will receive partially-assembled pieces from South Africa, handling final assembly for vehicles sold locally in Nigeria. The Nigerian operation, which will be located at Ikeja in Lagos State, will be a "semi-knockdown" plant that will receive parts and components partially assembled from South Africa and complete the assembly. That's because the midsize pickup is reportedly too close in size to the Ford F-150. Jeff Nemeth, the president and CEO of Ford Motor Company's business in sub-Saharan Africa, told Reuters , "Nigeria is a priority market for us in sub-Saharan... He said depending on how Nigeria develops over time, the company is looking at using its Nigerian plant to service West Africa. Cosmas Maduka, President of Coscharis Motors, said: "This partnership will boost Nigeria's much needed march towards industrialization and create an important step in the development of the automotive industry".
