said this week that it will spend $877 million on major upgrades to a factory in Michigan that makes its hot-selling Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks. It's unusual for an automaker to make major investments in a factory when it isn't gearing up to launch an all-new model. The Silverado and Sierra were all-new for 2014, and their replacements aren't expected until 2019. But this $877 million announcement follows an earlier $600 million commitment by GM to upgrade the factory in Flint, Mich. I think it's about taking a page from Ford and its all-new F-150. GM has been watching Ford's F-150 launch very carefully. That's because building an aluminum-bodied vehicle requires very different tooling and processes than building one with a steel body. In order to build the new F-150, Ford needed to make big and expensive changes to the two factories that build its top-selling pickup. That was expensive in more ways than one: Not only was the tooling expensive, but both of those factories run nearly around the clock. Ford has been scrambling to make up the shortfall. So far, its launch of the new F-150 has gone quite well -- but one of the downsides of Ford's strategy is that sales of the F-Series were down for months because of short supplies. Two women hurt in suspected DUI wreck in LaGrange - LaGrange Daily News

One driver is facing charges while another driver is still recovering from injures following a head-on collision early Saturday morning on Whitesville Street near the Stay Lodge motel. LaGrange police officers said a white Ford F-150 and a black Kia Amanti collided about 4 a. m. Saturday. The driver of the Kia told the officer she was traveling north on Whitesville Street when the truck veered into her lane and hit her on the driver’s side, according to an officer’s report. LaGrange Police Department officers attempted to speak with the driver of the Ford F-150, identified in an LPD report as Shelisie Paige Gunn-Leather, 27, whose address was unavailable, but officers said she seemed disoriented. Officers also reported a “heavy odor” of alcohol coming from her. According to the report, Gunn eventually gave officers her name and told them she didn’t know what happened. Before she was transported, LPD officers told her she would be placed her under arrested on suspicion of DUI. Later at the hospital, an officer again spoke with Gunn, who again refused the test. A nurse had drawn blood from Gunn at about 5 a. m. , according to the officer’s report, and advised the officer that it tested positive for alcohol. Source: lagrangenews.com

It seems that the reason why the 2015 Ford F-150 didn’t help towards boosting the profits is that sales of the truck fell 6% during Q2 and this was down to the fact that there had been tight supplies of the truck. However for once the sales of the 2015 Ford F-150 didn’t play a factor, but will this change during quarters 3 and 4 as this is when Ford usually gets the majority of their profits.
