Driver killed when pickup crashes on CR 318 - Ocala

Jonathen Joseph Stuart Bishop, 17, was driving a Dodge Ram pickup west on County Road 318 and was coming around a curve when, for an unknown reason, he lost control and struck a sign, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Bishop's family members, who had not seen him come home and were concerned, went looking for him. FHP troopers said a call about the crash, which was in a dark stretch of CR 318 near Northwest 160th Avenue, came in shortly before 10 p. m. Family members on-scene were too distraught to talk with a reporter. "They're a wonderful, close-knit family, and you hate to see something like this happen to such a fine family in our community," said Gerald Hethcoat, mayor of Williston. "The entire faculty, staff and students are shocked and saddened with the sudden loss," Principal Eulin Gibbs said on Tuesday. Gibbs said Bishop was "an outgoing, well-loved and outstanding young man," known by just about everyone at the school. The principal, who has led the school for three years, said Bishop was the first student he spoke with on campus. Since then, Gibbs said, they've spoken just about every school day. Born April 8, 1951, Jose Manuel Figueroa composed more than 35 albums in his career that stretched back to the 1970s. His debut song, “The Way of Love,” helped pave his way to prominence throughout Latin America and much of the United States —... Sebastian had been married to Edinburg native Erica Canales for more than a decade. After their divorce, she wed Edinburg attorney Terry Canales, a Democratic state representative. Erica Canales wept Monday evening as she recalled how she met Sebastian as a 17-year-old girl after one of his local performances in 1998. She told the story of how she had gone to his concert with her relatives, but was unfamiliar with his music. Erica had been in the front row that night with her relatives. After the performance, she unwittingly had been sitting next to one of Sebastian’s sons, who helped arrange a photo for a fellow fan with the musician. “I asked my sister, ‘Can you take her. ” Erica said. “My sister said ‘No, you take her. “I walked in. He noticed I had no emotion towards him or anything,” Erica said. Erica said she didn’t think much of the encounter. But as she turned around to leave, Sebastian’s brother asked her to give him her autograph. Erica said she still didn’t understand why Sebastian would want her autograph and tried to leave. For Edinburg crash victim, a new career cut short - Monitor

Edinburg Municipal Judge Terry Palacios charged Arriaga with intoxication manslaughter and possession of marijuana. He set Arriaga’s bond at $510,000. Steven Cruz, a self-described best friend of Canales, said the 29-year-old Edinburg man had signed a contract to work as a registered nurse Wednesday and had planned to meet with friends that afternoon. Edinburg police arrested Arriaga after officers said he caused the head-on collision that left Canales dead, Lt. Oscar Treviño said. Witnesses reported observing Arriaga moments before the crash, traveling southbound on Sugar Road, “zigzagging” between lanes, nearly hitting other vehicles on the road, Treviño said. Arriaga told investigators two different versions what happened, attempting to pin the blame on Canales in both instances, the complaint states. Officers reported smelling marijuana from inside Arriaga’s car and found a marijuana joint on the driver’s side floor, the complaint states. Arriaga also told officers at the scene that the last time he had smoked marijuana was about a month ago. Source: www.themonitor.com
