Chrysler adds 139115 vehicles to recall including some in Georgia - WXIA-TV

(USA Today) -- Chrysler Group, prodded by U. S. safety regulators, will add 139,115 vehicles to a recall for air bags that could explode with too much force. Chrysler says another 69,668 vehicles covered by a previous, related recall also are part of the Thursday expansion, meaning the latest action affects 208,783 vehicles. The latest expansion covers the Ram pickup from the 2003 to 2005 model years, as well as the 2004 and 2005 Dodge Durango, 2005 Chrysler 300 and 2005 Dodge Magnum. It's part of a growing problem worldwide with air bag inflators made by Japanese auto parts giant Takata Corp. At first Chrysler agreed to replace passenger air bag inflators in Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands -- areas where high humidity seems to exacerbate the problem. The latest expansion brings the total number of Chrysler vehicles recalled for Takata air bags to 617,573. Chrysler emphasizes that no Takata bags have deployed improperly in any of its vehicles, and that it is expanding the recall because of "an...   Auburn Hills, Mich. -- While completely re-engineered from the legendary 426 HEMI V-8 that powered Chrysler muscle cars of the 1960s, two features earn the new 5.7-liter HEMI power plant its HEMI name.

  Facts and Features

  The 5.7-liter HEMI® Magnum V-8 engine is an internally balanced pushrod (OHV) 90-degree V-8. The cast iron block is a deep skirt and cross-bolted design with cylinder bore spacing the same as the engine it replaces. The aluminum cylinder features a two-valve per-cylinder, hemispherical combustion chamber with dual spark plugs and a coil over plug ignition for best-in-class airflow and power. At an impressive 345 hp and 375 lb.-ft of torque, the 5.7-liter HEMI cranks out 41 percent more power and 12 percent greater torque than the 5.9-liter Magnum V-8 it replaces. And the power plant is 56 pounds lighter than its predecessor. An Integrated Air Fuel Module (IAFM) incorporates the function of 26 individual components in the induction and fuel system, thereby reducing cost, weight and engine plant complexity. The 5.7-liter HEMI marks Chrysler Group’s first application of an electronic throttle control system in a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. The system uses a DC motor with reduction gears to open and close the throttle, for optimal control of the airflow into the engine. A combination of the 5.7-liter HEMI and the new 545RFE five-speed automatic transmission will improve fuel efficiency for the heavy-duty pickup by 8-10 percent over the 5.9-liter V-8. A systematic approach to sealing, using premium elastomeric materials and state-of-the-art practices, helps ensure a leak-free, weep-free engine.

  Seriously... it's a fact. Dodge's DO NOT hold their value compared to, say an F150 or a Sierra, or a Silverado. BUT... This is a good thing because that means you and I can get our hands on a really good, really appealing truck for $1000s less! I've had 3 Dodge's so far, one with a 3.7 V6, one with a 4.7 V8, and one with the 5.7 HEMI V8 (Awesome engine!), and i wished i'd kept all three. Unfortunately i suffer from, "Gotta' have the next thing-itis" and i think it's terminal. All 3 trucks were great, the V6 was really underpowered, the 4.7 was normal, but the HEMI was incredible. Got rid of the HEMI a few months ago and it had 238,000 miles and ran like it had 50k, no lie. I LOVE EM.

  Best Features

  HEMI power, Feel like you're the king of the road especially when you're driving a 4x4 Dodge with 35's, I particularly think that this generation Ram is the best looking truck on the road except for maybe the 09 and up

  Worst Features

  Cheap feeling interior (especially the dash plastic) Suspension is really bumpy, Also, never had a Dodge get good gas mileage at all.
