However, a few small tweaks to Connecticut's liquor laws, which was approved along with the budget, has sparked a debate of its own among those in the state's liquor industry. The first law passed was the expansion of liquor store hours. Stores will be able to stay open from 8 a. m. to 10 p. m. Monday through Saturday, along with adding an additional hour of operation on Sundays. On top of this, the legislature also expanded the amount of liquor licenses one person can own from three to four starting July 1, 2015, and from four to five starting July 1, 2016. One local liquor store owner, Sjur Soleng of Ninety 9 Bottles in... "I've already spoken to liquor stores and nobody is going to increase their hours," Soleng said. Connecticut is one of over a dozen states with a system that controls prices at the wholesale level and "bottle min" is a part of that system, which Soleng says helps the little guys. "The bottle min helps, but when you drive out everybody, then there is only one game in town and you don't know what's expensive anymore," Soleng said. He was issued a $2,500 bond, which he posted, and is scheduled to be arraigned at Norwalk Superior Court on July 14. According to Norwalk Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Terry Blake, police received a call of shots fired at Cranbury Park around 11:24 p. m. , where the entire shift of the Norwalk police department responded to the scene. Due to the chaotic scene, officers called for backup from area towns because at the time, officers did not know whether anyone had been shot and injured. Witnesses told police that a security guard, later identified as Baldwin, had shot a gun into the air and was in the area of the Gallaher Mansion. Police say they do not believe Baldwin acted in self-defense during the brawl and there were no gunshot victims found at the scene. Witnesses also told police that another person fired a gun during the incident. In all, nine area police departments responded to the scene to assist Norwalk, including Westport, Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, New Canaan, Stamford, Weston, Wilton and the State Police. Justin Harmon, 28, of 441 Poplar St. in Bridgeport, was arrested on multiple charges related to possession of a firearm and intent to distribute narcotics, according to police documents. Officers from Norwalk Police Department were dispatched to the residence after receiving a complaint from an anonymous female stating that there was a man with a gun inside the home. Police spoke to the person responsible for the home, who said she had been having a birthday party when Harmon entered through a back door, waved a gun at the guests, and went upstairs. Police said they began to clear the house, at which time they encountered Harmon and another man in a bedroom. According to police documents, when Harmon was told to vacate the room, he laughed and stared at them. Both men were detained and searched, at which time Harmon was found to be carrying a small bag of heroin, police said. Harmon does not have a pistol permit, police said. According to an arrest log maintained by Norwalk Police Department, Harmon was charged with possession of less than four ounces marijuana, carrying a gun without a permit, possession of narcotics, illegal possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet...
