Yutaka Katayama, father of the Z car, dies at 105 - Gizmag

In sad news for the automotive world, Yutaka Katayama, first president of Nissan Motor Corporation U. S. A. , and father of the Z Car, passed away on February 19 at the age of 105. Affectionately known as Mr. K, his impact, not only on Nissan and... Yutaka Katayama's impact can be summed up in three numbers and one letter: 240 Z. In the late 1960s and early 1970s. Previously littler heard of European marques such as Jaguar and Ferrari made their name on the race tracks of the world and... Established brands such as Ford and Chevrolet answered with corporate initiatives like "total performance" and the GT40, and in Chevy's case, backdoor assistance to Jim Hall and his staggeringly innovative Chaparrals. By the late 1960s, it was collectively exporting a small offering of cars that were lightweight, fuel efficient, borderline-cute on occasion, funky looking the rest of the time, but mainly were looked at with derision and made the butt of jokes by... The man responsible for the 240 Z was Mr. K, and the car was the wellspring from which flowed other, bigger, faster Z cars. They were raced by the factory, and they were raced by privateers. The bottom line for Mr. K and company was very good, but the bottom line for the rest of. Source: www.gizmag.com

2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4x4 [w/videos] - Autoblog (blog)

On the way back down the mountain, the Sprinter's easy-to-drive manners were a welcome relief. It certainly wasn't what I expected, but the Sprinter 4x4 handled everything I threw at it. Really, that's the whole point with the four-wheel-drive Sprinter. Instead, Mercedes fitted its work van with all-terrain capability because there are times where Sprinter-driving workers need to get to gross parts of the world. Mercedes said the Sprinter 4x4 is already off to a good start in terms of sales – the four-wheel-drive van is sold out until October. Moving forward, four-wheel-drive will continue to be part of the Sprinter strategy, and production will ramp up, especially when Mercedes' new van facility comes online in South Carolina. The addition of four-wheel drive means Mercedes now offers capability in this segment that newcomers like the Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster do not. After all, a FedEx driver can assume that his delivery route won't include muddy routes up a logging route, but it's good to know this upgraded Sprinter provides sure-footed assurance when the anticipated smooth road ahead proves to be anything but. 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe Suspension Fab & Steering Upgrade - Rosco P. Drivetrain - Four Wheeler Network

Despite frequent diaper changes and dueling with fussy babies, in recent weeks things have calmed down just enough to allow us some time to head out to the driveway to tinker on the ol’ Tahoe. Last time we started mocking up parts of the front and rear suspension. Adding to the mix, a modified steering box also arrived at the house from West Texas Off Road. The box is just what we wanted and all drilled and tapped for a hydraulic assist via a Redneck Ram. With the steering box in hand and mounted we could begin to figure out the rest of the steering and start work on finalizing the frame side mounting point for the front track bar. A while back when we started this project we knew we wanted to push the new front axle forward a few inches. With the axle forward the steering box would be too far back. We could either remount the steering box or, as our friend Rob Bonney pointed out, get a box with reversed internals and run the pitman arm in forward sweep. Plus this reversed internal box is tapped for a Redneck Ram for hydraulic assist. That will help steer those 37s. Speaking of track bars…With our rear suspension lifted and a. • 2004 avalanche "SERVICE 4WD" - Ask the GM Technician

Well like you said it sounds like your t-case is doing what it is supposed to. So the problem must be between there and the actuator. I did a search and found a common problem with a speed sensor on the t-case that will not enable the actuator to get power. I will attach the TSB I found. Hopefully this helps, sounds like the problem you have.

    This may help.

    Bulletin No.: 05-04-21-003C

    Date: April 15, 2008

Subject:Service 4WD Light Illuminated, DTC C0374 Set (Inspect Wiring Harness to Transfer Case Speed Sensors,, Replace Wiring Harness) Models:2004-2007 Buick Rainier2003-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic, TrailBlazer, TrailBlazer EXT2003-2006 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL2003-2007 GMC Envoy, Envoy XL, Sierra Classic2003-2004 Oldsmobile Bravada2005-2007 Saab 9-7X With Four Wheel Drive or All-Wheel Drive

and Active All-Wheel Drive (RPO NP4) or Active Two-Speed (RPO NP8) Transfer Case

    Supercede:

This bulletin is being revised to update the Model and Warranty Information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-04-21-003B (Section 04 - Driveline/Axle).

    Condition

Some customers may comment on intermittent illumination of the Service 4WD light. Upon investigation, the technician may find DTC C0374 set. The customer may also comment on intermittent erratic operation of the 4WD or AWD system after driving through rain/snow or simply going through a car wash.

    Cause

The speed sensor signal may have become corrupted. Possible openings in the speed sensor wire insulation (twisted pairs) can allow water intrusion. Also wire connections contaminated by water may result in short circuits and erroneous speed sensor readings. This most often occurs on the rear speed sensor circuit.

    Correction

Inspect the wiring harness to the transfer case speed sensors. On Rainier, TrailBlazer, Envoy and 9-7X models, fabricate a replacement speed sensor harness between the C101 connector and the speed sensors. Completely inspect and test all wiring. Refer to Speed Signal Front Axle Actuator and Indicators schematic in SI.

Replace the affected twisted pairs. Do not over-twist the two wires in the replacement harness. Wires should be twisted at a rate of 9 revolutions per foot. Use service connector pack, P/N 88987993 at the speed sensor end and terminal, P/N 15326267, at C101.

Terminal testing tools and service terminals can be found in Terminal Repair Kit J 38125. Terminals are available from SPX/Kent-Moore.

The smaller transfer case harness splices into the larger chassis harness a few inches in front of the crossmember. The chassis harness routes along the left side of the frame under the driver door area. Use nylon tie straps to secure the fabricated harness to the main chassis harness between the transfer case and C101.

On the full-size pickup and full-size utility models, replace the 2.2 m (88 in) pigtail harness that runs from the C151 connector under the hood to the transfer case. Use either harness P/N 15832722 or 15224663 depending on vehicle equipment. Refer to Propshaft Speed Sensors Front Axle Actuator and Transfer Case Shift Control Switch schematic in SI.

Important: Technicians should verify the integrity of the splice joints after the repair. All splice joints and connections should seal properly against water or a repeat condition can occur.

Has anybody had this happen......Upon starting my 03 AV, none of my 4wh drive lights (Auto 4W, 2H, 4H, 4L) were lit and in the info center in my dash it stated "Service 4 Wheel Drive".  The truck was performing fine so I couldn't tell if there was a real problem yet.  After shutting my AV off and looking in my owner's manual, I started the truck again.  Everything functioned as normal, no warning in the dash and all lights worked properly.  I called the dealership and they suggested I bring it in when this happens.  Well, it has happened 3 times in the past year but each time it is like the system reset itself when I shut it down and started it again!?HuhAny thoughts.... unclequacker,

    Welcome to the club.

I have an 03 Z-71 and this has happened to me 2 times, each time being reset with no problems. I have been wondering too what has caused this, I think that the 2nd time it did it was after I washed the engine down. I don't know. Interested in seeing whats said.

Mine hadn't ever shown the message but I have the dealer scan for codes each time I have mine in for service. They found one saying that there was no communications with the module. But instead of addressing the switch / moisture issue, they changed out the BCM! Huh

I hadn't seen this on any TSB's but so far, no codes since..

I have had my truck at the dealership 3 times for the same thing.  The temperature indicator in my rearview mirror is incorrect if it is 40deg. - 49deg.  My mirror will show 90deg. thru 99 deg.  Any other temperature range the indicator works fine.  The dealer cannot get it fixed.

The only other problem I had is at 32000 miles my catalitic conveter went.  Made a terrible noise, I was afraid to drive it. I didn't know what it was!

go read any of the several threads on the subject and you'll read about my nighmare.

Summarizing, I took it in for the "service 4WD" issue 6-7 times (documented) and maybe a couple more not doc'd.  Sometimes it threw a codes, sometimes not.  Sometimes I'd drive straight there without shutting off engine and make them look at it, as on at least one occasion I took it in later and they wouldn't document b/c of no codes  Roll Eyes  I haven't had the issue in about a year now (knock on wood) and decided that it wouldn't be worth it to try to lemon it (hassle, mileage, might get same prob on replacement, etc.).

You say you've had the message and no mechanical problems?  Did your 4WD lights either all illuminate, or none illuminate, when you got the DIC message?  Usually when this happens you will not be able to select out of the current 4WD configuration that you are in...which I'd certainly classify as a mechanical problem...even if only a temporary one caused by an apparent electrical issue.

Mine has thrown the "Service 4WD" message 6-8 times since I got it in Dec of '02.  I took it in yesterday to have that and several other things looked at  (see this thread ) and what do you know, "Service 4WD" shows up in the DIC.  I kept the truck running and showed the service advisor.  The reprogrammed the TCCM (as per the TSB) and I hope that all mine needed.

Outside Air Temperature on Rearview Mirror Reads Too High (Relocate Ambient Air Temperature Sensor) #04-08-45-008A - (Mar 7, 2005)

2004-2005 Cadillac Escalade Models only!  banghead  veryveryangry

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2005 Model Year. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-08-45-008 (Section 08 -- Body and Accessories).

    Condition

Some customers may comment that the outside air temperature reading on the rearview mirror is too high.

    Cause

The ambient air temperature sensor may be too close to the transmission auxiliary cooler.

    Correction

Relocate the ambient air temperature sensor.

       1. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement (SI Document ID #724462).   2. Remove the ambient air temperature sensor from its location.

        3. Drill a 27/64 or 11 mm hole into the front end radiator support brace between the hood latch assembly and the grille mounting tab as seen in illustration above.   4. Remove the wire harness from the electrical connector using the pick tool, P/N 12094429, from the Delphi Packard Electric System.   5. Sperry... thanks for the info.. I am going to let the dealer give it one more shot.....   It is correct any other time unless the outside air temp. is 40-49 degrees.... let's see what happens

If they'll do it..`Can't understand what would really matter except the "Cadillac" level of service?

Have lhem pull the above bulletin # or document ID# 1619047.

And maybe let us know what they say or do..  idea

BTW, reply on that in another "temp sensor" topic..

Well, here is what they did:

    1) Reprogrammed my BMC2) Replaced my serpentine belt3) Replaced my rearview mirror4) Ordered new gaskets for the "airbox"? in my dash... I have to take it back in....5) Ordered a new instrument cluster. I have to take it back in.6) Still not sure if my AV is recalled...

Let's hope this all works! I am out of warranty in 1300 miles!
