America is great at many things, but one area where we could stand some improvement is our transportation infrastructure. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal , our nation's crumbling highways and byways cost drivers more than $500 per year -- and the situation's likely to get worse. A big reason for the slow, painful collapse of our infrastructure has been the persistent shortage of funds to repair and improve it. Much of that money comes from the federal gas tax, which hasn't been raised since 1993 and -- not surprisingly --... Various solutions to the problem have proposed, including increasing the gas tax and adding toll roads , but none of those ideas have gained traction with tax-averse politicians. Joshua Sevores, 35, of Butte was arrested after police said they found him with 90. 5 grams of marijuana in a baggie and a pipe in the area of Grand and Texas early Friday. He’s facing two misdemeanor charges of possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. A 46-year-old Butte man reported his blue 1993 Chevrolet F150 truck was stolen from a restaurant in the 2100 block of Harvard Avenue on Friday morning. Police say he had left the keys on a seat inside the vehicle, which has Montana plates, AAGJ6542. Police arrested Tiffany Berger, 40, of Butte for criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after police said she attempted to force her way inside a residence and take a dog in the 900 block of Maryland Avenue on Friday. Berger, who was wanted on two criminal contempt warrants, was cited with two counts of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors. Simione Longneck, 25, of Butte was taken into police custody after he violently shoved a door and punched another door at a convenience store at Front and Utah late Sunday. A clerk told police Longneck and a 22-year-old man were highly intoxicated and tried to buy gas but had no vehicle. After Longneck left the store, police say he attempted to get into a person’s car and then spewed racial slurs when the person refused. Michelle Cummings, 40, of Butte was stopped by police after she nearly drifted into a vehicle in an adjacent lane as she was traveling northbound on Montana Street Uptown late Saturday. Changing times between street drags and Fast Cop program - Grand Forks Herald

In 2003, Fast Cop and the Wednesday Night Street Drags at Brainerd International Raceway began their efforts to keep teenagers safe behind the wheel and provide a controlled environment for people to race their cars. "We meet and talk to about 1,000 people every year at the drags," said Fast Cop President Larry White. "People who began are now bringing their parents to race and compete for fun and learn how to experience the thrill of drag racing in a safe and legal manner. On July 1, 150 cars ran until dark with car enthusiasts filling the spectator area. Brainerd International Raceway features the racing for a fee of $25 for unlimited racing with professional timing and $5 for spectators so the family can watch all evening. "We promote the Wednesday night drags and BIR promotes our program," White said. The next time to see the Fast Cop Mustang in action begins at 4 p. m. , July 15, at BIR. in the fall of 2003.
