At Maple and Woodward, I pull alongside a gorgeous, red, 2015 Porsche Turbo GT3 – the fastest Porsche made outside the otherworldly 918 hybrid - trying to tempt him into a stoplight drag. He's a good citizen and resists (good advice on a day when police will be thick as flies). We cruise side-by-side for a mile. At the 14 Mile and Woodard stoplight, a black, 2011 Mustang shows no such self-control when he sees my sneak up in his rear view mirror. He stomps on his big V-8 and burns rubber out of the stoplight with my little Alfa – which weighs two-thirds his 3,500-pound beast – in pursuit. I arrive at the epicenter of the Cruise – 13 Mile and Woodward – and there is no parking to be had. Take a rest, little Alfa, we'll cruise more later. But according to a new vehicle-theft report, Dodge muscle cars available for lawful purchase aren't the only ones disappearing. -based auto-theft number crunchers, released a new study focusing on the Dodge Charger and its theft history during the past 3 1/2 decades. That's an average of more than 1,300 a year, a number that's only been on the rise since the Charger's return to production for the 2006 model year. In fact, the 3,500 Chargers stolen in 2014 nearly doubled the number stolen back in 1981, at a time when auto theft — which declined by nearly half in the past decade alone — was far more common. Last year was the highest year on record for Charger thefts, followed by 2011, when there were 2,967 thefts, 2010 with 2,950, 2009 with 2,946, and 2013 with 2,931. Man found dead inside rural cabin in Jawbone Canyon - Kern Golden Empire

BAKERSFIELD, Ca. Sheriff's officials were investigating a man's death inside a rural cabin in Jawbone Canyon Friday and said it may be possibly related to a kidnapping case in Twin Oaks earlier this week. On Tuesday night, deputies were dispatched to the Twin Oaks General Store in Twin Oaks, east of Bakersfield, for a report of a kidnapping which had occurred at a remote rural cabin about fifteen miles southeast of Twin Oaks. There were three victims, two 20 year old males and a 19 year old male from Bakersfield, who deputies say had been kidnapped and held at gunpoint. Deputies say the victims had arrived at a cabin owned by one of the victims at about 7:00 pm. They drove to the cabin in a Polaris Ranger. When they arrived they approached the cabin and were confronted by a male suspect who had been inside the cabin. A pickup stolen Wednesday afternoon may have been taken by the suspect wanted in connection with holding three men captive at gunpoint in a remote cabin southeast of Twin Oaks.
