Shots fired at Camp Shelby soldiers - Jackson Clarion Ledger

Authorities are still searching for a man who allegedly fired shots at soldiers training at Camp Shelby on Tuesday. Perry County Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith said no one was injured around 11:35 a. m. when the shots were fired in the direction of two soldiers training on Peret Tower Road, which is not on the premises of Camp Shelby. Smith said he doesn't know if the two soldiers were actually the target of the shots or not, but that where they were training was visible from the road. Officers are searching the area for a maroon pick-up truck with black rims, believed to have been driven by a white man who Perry said authorities believe fired the shots. They were taken from the residence to the Perry County Sheriff's Department by the Mississippi Highway Patrol before they were questioned and released without charges. Christian Patterson said the soldiers reported the shots to their commanding officers, who in turn told local authorities. Smith said depending on how the investigation goes, the charges against the shooter could range from simple assault to aggravated assault. Ford Reconsidering A Compact Pickup, Ranger Redux For U.S. - The Car Connection

Could compact trucks be on the verge of catching a second wind in the U. S. After several years of saying that the Ranger wouldn't be replaced in the U. S. by a new compact truck, Ford appears to be having a change of heart—and at the very least... Ford marketing manager Dave Scott recently revealed to USA Today that Ford is now giving serious consideration to an entry-level compact pickup for the U. S. market. But in order to succeed in the market—and not cannibalize sales from the highly profitable F-Series lineup—such a truck would need to be smaller than GM's new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pickups. "We're looking at it. We think we could sell a compact truck that's more like the size of the old Ranger, that gets six or eight more miles per gallon (than a full-size truck), is $5,000 or $6,000 less, and that we could build in the U. S. to... The current Ranger that Ford sells overseas is simply too close in size to the F-Series. The same is perhaps true for those GM mid-size trucks, which are quite close both in size and price to their full-size brandmates—although it'll be some months before sales figures on those new trucks can be judged.
