A small LinkedIn update by former top Chrysler product quality and service executive Doug Betts has caused a giant stir. Betts, who left Fiat Chrysler Automobiles late last year, updated his LinkedIn profile to say that he has a new role, which he deemed as: "Operations - Apple Inc. News that Betts has joined Apple in some kind of an "operations" role, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal this week, was picked up by dozens of news organizations and tech news websites. Betts is a big-time name from the automotive industry. He is among the first high-level former or current automotive executives to be hired by Apple. Betts joined Chrysler in 2007 after working for Nissan and Chrysler in various quality positions for 21 years. At Nissan, he was senior vice president of manufacturing and at Toyota he was general manager of manufacturing. The automaker announced Betts' departure one day after Consumer Reports released a study showing the quality and reliability of each Chrysler brand, while improving in industry studies over the years, failed to keep up with its competitors. Still, he is respected in the automotive industry and has years of experience, industry knowledge and connections. By hiring Betts, Apple gains an industry veteran who has intimate knowledge about how automakers operate and how they make cars. Source: www.usatoday.com

Predators sign goaltending prospect Juuse Saros - The Tennessean

The Predators announced Tuesday that they have signed goaltending prospect Juuse Saros to a three-year, entry-level contract. A fourth-round pick in the 2013 NHL draft, Saros finished in the top five in goals-against average (2. 14), save percentage (. 929), shutouts (six) and minutes played (2,773:53) in his second full season with HPK of the Finnish Elite League. The 20-year-old represented Finland at the 2015 IIHF World Championship last month, serving as Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne's backup. Adam Vingan began covering the Predators for The Tennessean in March 2015. Dallas has long been known as a city sweet on luxury cars, and its fascination with six- and even seven-figure vehicles is reflected in the high-end area of the Dallas Auto Show, which opens Wednesday. This year, the high-end display — probably the only one of its kind — will feature such million-dollar star cars as the Aston Martin One-77 and Pagani Huayra, as well as a McLaren 650S, Bentley GT Speed convertible, Rolls-Royce Wraith and others. “The New York show doesn’t do it, Chicago doesn’t and Detroit doesn’t either,” said Lee Chapman, president of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan New Car Dealers Association. Ultra-luxury cars aren’t the only vehicles at the show, of course. Among them are the all-new 2016 Nissan Titan pickup, the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, 2016 Mustang GT 350, 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe and 2016 Buick Cascada convertible.
