Fort Hood releases details on three soldiers who died over July 4 weekend - The Killeen Daily Herald

Jason Darryl Kane, 24, fell out of the bed of a pickup truck early July 6 after he and three other soldiers were hog hunting on private property off Maxdale Road, according to a release from the Bell County Sheriff’s Department. When they left the property, two men were riding in the truck’s cab and the other two were riding in back. When they arrived at the gate of the property, the two men riding in front noticed the other two were no longer in the back of the truck. Kane was dead on arrival, the sheriff’s department said. The other injured soldier is still in critical condition at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Bell County sheriff’s spokesman Lt. T. J. Cruz said Tuesday. Kane, 24, of Surry, Maine, entered active-duty service in November 2010 as an explosive ordnance disposal specialist. He had been assigned to the 47th Ordnance Disposal Company, 79th Ordnance Battalion, at Fort Hood, since February 2012. He deployed to Afghanistan from March to November 2014. Gene Steffy Ford shows off new dealership - Columbus Telegram

COLUMBUS -- Joe Steffensmeier called Gene Steffy Ford’s shift to a highway location an “embrace” of a Columbus community that he believes will bring opportunities for solving some of the dealership’s growing pains in the years ahead. “This is an investment in the community,” said Steffensmeier, the co-owner of Steffy’s Columbus dealership, during a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday in front of the vehicle showroom at 2215 E. 23rd St. “It’s pretty amazing to have all these people... The new 29,000-square-foot dealership on a 7. 5-acre site is located between the FLEXcon and Sidump’r Trailer manufacturing plants. The new location will offer a lot of opportunities for growth in the future, he said. Steffy, which had been anticipating a move to a highway location on the east side of Columbus for several years, began work on the nearly $3 million project about a year ago. Steffy Ford bought the site of the new dealership from the former owners, Appleton EGS, several years ago, according to Platte County Assessor’s Office records. The tract was valued at $225,000 in 2013. The new dealership’s look is based on Ford’s most recent trustmark design, which gives it a more modern feel, Steffensmeier said. “The new dealership has a lot of pop to its design outside,” Steffensmeier said. On Tuesday, May 19, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies made two separate arrests. First, Jeremy Michael Quario, 31, Hazleton was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for Probation Violation. Then, Jesse Ray Kirby, 21, Independence, was also arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for Probation Violation. On Wednesday, May 20, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested and charged Kim Robin Tielebein, 47, Hazleton, on multiple accounts, including Driving While License Revoked and Disorderly Conduct. Michale Tyre Charles Jefferson, 18, Waterloo, was arrested on an active arrest warrant by Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies on Wednesday, May 20. The warrant was issued for Failure to Appear. Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest. On Thursday, May 21, Taylor Austin Smutz, 22, Brandon, was arrested by Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies for Criminal Mischief in the second degree. Smutz was held at the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office following the arrest. Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies made the arrest following a traffic stop near the 1400 block of Buchanan-Delaware Ave. On Friday, May 22, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested and charged Bradley David Organ, 48, Independence, for Driving While License Suspended.
