Toomey takes mayoral seat in Mitchell - Daily Republic

Toomey finished with 58 percent of the vote to Tracy's 42 percent in an election that saw about 28 percent of Mitchell residents voting on the mayoral race. After Tracy received praise from his peers, Toomey took the mayor's chair at the head of the table in City Council Chambers and led the meeting without interjecting on any of the agenda items. Following the meeting, Toomey said the decision to move forward with the proposed indoor pool, which edges closer to reality as it has secured a funding package from local motel owners, and the issues with the Corn Palace renovation will likely be... Before Toomey took the oath of office, Smith presented Tracy with a plaque of recognition for his service before Toomey was sworn in as the new mayor. Tracy has said he has no regrets from his three-year term as mayor, but believes the delay in the Corn Palace dome installation and his decision to support an indoor pool project over a City Hall renovation may have been the downfall of his campaign.
