Reunited: Barn discovery leads to classic car returning home to Broken Arrow - Tulsa World

Leake Auction Company was established in 1972 as one of the first car auctions in the country. The auction company has sold more than 35,000 cars and stages a major auction in Tulsa. Auctions begin noon Friday, 10 a. m. Saturday and 9 a. m. Sunday. Vehicles: 700 collector cars, trucks and motorcycles. “The Auburn Automobile Co. had produced thousands of Cords and Auburns since the early 1900s, so I knew there still had to be a market for supplying parts and even making new ones. All the way home and for the next four years, I kept (the idea of) owning that factory in the back of my mind like it already belonged to me. ”. He borrowed $20 from a PTA fund (“we knew we wouldn’t be spending the night because we didn’t have any... Said Doug Pray: “He shows me the car and I tell him the story, and we make a deal and I hand him the check and he stepped back and he looked at that check, and he said, ‘That’s the biggest check I’ve ever seen in my life. ’ It went from the most expensive Cord in the world at $8,000 in 1961 to six figures in 50-some-odd years later. “I didn’t hesitate,” he said. “One reason I didn’t hesitate is because of Cord collectors.
