WASHINGTON -- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles today issued details on its buy-back and incentive program offered to more than 1 million owners of vehicles recalled in 2013 but for which recall repair programs weren’t immediately available. FCA agreed to make the offers as part of its July deal to settle the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s probe into violations of U. S. auto safety laws by FCA, which included a record $105 million in civil penalties and required... “Remedies are available, we are servicing vehicles and we encourage affected customers to contact their dealers,” Scott Kunselman, FCA senior vice president of vehicle safety and regulatory compliance,. Alternatively, owners eligible for the buy-backs may opt to have their vehicles repaired and receive a $100 prepaid Visa card, or accept a trade-in incentive of $2,000 off the purchase price of a new Ram pickup or $1,000 off a Jeep, Chrysler,... Washington — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said late Monday it is opening a preliminary investigation into 408,000 new Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs for complaints that the vehicles rolled away after being shifted into park. Jeep Grand Cherokee sales were up 5 percent in July to 15,867 in the United States and are up 4 percent for the year to 108,947. In June, an owner in Livonia said he put his 2015 Jeep SUV into park to go into a gas station. “The vehicle then started to roll backwards while still in park and then collided into another parked vehicle. While the vehicle was rolling backwards, three other occupants proceeded to evacuate the vehicle before it collided with the other parked car,” the complaint said. “The evacuation of the vehicle left the doors open which, when the vehicles collided, left the doors of the rolling vehicle (the jeep) unable to be closed. A child was injured exiting the vehicle as the vehicle collided with another parked vehicle and then continued on, rolling into a ditch. In another complaint filed in February, an owner in Morganton, North Carolina, said he was seriously injured when his 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee started moving after he parked it and the driver door struck him, knocking him to the ground “on. Two witnesses to the fatal shooting of a man in downtown Little Rock testified Tuesday that they saw him backing away when the first shot was fired. Chris Aaron Schnarr, 30, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Arista Lee "AJ" Aldridge Jr. , 45. Schnarr says he shot Aldridge in self-defense in May 2013 after the men nearly collided at the intersection of Sixth Street and the... After the near-collision, the two men drove down Sixth Street, engaging in a brief shouting match before Aldridge's beige GMC Jimmy passed Schnarr's white Jeep Grand Cherokee and cut him off. Aldridge was shot after he got out of his GMC and confronted Schnarr, a North Little Rock concealed-carry license holder. Prosecutors told a Pulaski County jury Tuesday that Schnarr could have avoided the confrontation by driving away, but instead chose to open fire. Chris Schnarr's attitude was 'I'm going to shoot first and make excuses later,'" deputy prosecutor Kelly Ward said in opening statements, describing the men's argument as "very silly.
