Next Honda Ridgeline Will Have Conventional Styling, Updated Tech - TruckTrend Magazine

Late last year, Honda showed us a teaser sketch of the new Honda Ridgeline , and it’s obvious that the truck’s next generation is going to abandon lots of the, um, unique styling elements of the previous truck. Potential owners may have also taken exception to the Ridgeline’s unibody construction and transverse engine mounting, as well as Honda’s relative lack of experience in the utility-vehicle segment compared to other midsize truck manufacturers. In its redesign for the 2014 model year ( which we loved ), the MDX implemented Honda’s current Earth Dreams suite of technology, which includes direct fuel injection, cylinder deactivation, and lower-friction engine components for the 3. 5L V-6.... If the 2016/2017 Ridgeline could match the current MDX’s EPA fuel economy ratings of 18/27 mpg, then the truck would have best-in-class V6 fuel economy. Since the previous-generation MDX and current Ridgeline weigh about the same, it would be reasonable to expect similar weight loss for the next Ridgeline. If it could drop the pounds like the MDX did, it would weigh less than or the same as other four-wheel drive, crew cab midsize trucks Even without offering multiple different configurations, Honda will probably have a hit on its hands with the next. As you can tell from the video, that's the theme of the day at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, MI. After two short lapping sessions in the Acura TLX-GT fear gave way to familiarity, and a second theme emerged: this is awesome. There are only two TLX-GTs in the world, and both were at Gingerman that day. The TLX-GT is barely TLX , but more Acura that you might expect. The wheelbase, roof, and doors are all stock dimensions, although all the bodywork is carbon fiber. Out go the front MacPherson struts, in goes a special double-wishbone suspension. The side mirrors are stock. Under the hood lies a 3. 5-liter twin-turbo V6 with a stock block, head, crank, and throttle body. "Under the hood" is a generous term, though, because half of the engine sits inside the cabin. The front end of the block is aft of the front axle - the rest of the hood is taken up with radiators and hoses. The front-mid engine location pushes the driver's seat back to the B-pillar, so you sit like Hightower from Police Academy. My first laps were understandably timid. But the TLX-GT is actually easy to drive. Once rolling you don't need the clutch for shifts - just bang the right and left paddles to go up and down. Source: www.autoblog.com
