FORD is in the early stages of an earnings turnaround – just as it is on the verge of completing a huge 12-year price base. Full-year net is expected to surge to the $1. 70/share area from last year’s $1. 16/share. Fueling the growth is strong demand for their F-150 trucks, which start @$26,000. (A 40% decline in gasoline prices versus last August is a strong positive – helping to boost demand for their luxury vehicles. ) But it is their F-Series line of pickups which is the best-selling luxury vehicle in the US. And in the September quarter Ford will roll out the F-150 Limited, a posh truck that will cost approximately $60,000. Technically F is in the latter... Long-term, once F could hurdle 19, then it would generate upside projections to 35+. GENERAL MOTORS sports a potentially large base, but it is lagging Ford. The CEO of ConocoPhillips ( COP ) purchased 28,300 shares @35. 30 ($900,000), and the CEO of Novartis ( NVS ) bought 32,000 shares @31. 80 ($1,000,000). As with Ford, General Motors is seeing strong sales in their truck line. Full-year net is expected to climb to the $4. 45-4. 50/share area from 2014’s $3. 05. Additional growth to the $5. 10/share area is expected in 2016. Technically, General Motors sports a 5-year base following its IPO. Much smaller and more livable than the big full size beasts like the Sierra, it's bigger and more serviceable than sport-themed pickups like the Tacoma. Throw in its very approachable price, and the GMC Canyon settles nicely in a sort of truck Goldilocks Zone. In each case, the vehicle was smooth over long hauls and easier to maneuver than a full size truck in traffic. Pickups and utility vehicles provided an uptick for U. S. auto dealers in February, even as many makers reported lower-than-expected results due to frigid temperatures and lackluster sales of cars. That was up 5. 3 percent from a year ago, but down about 30,000 vehicles from what industry analysts expected. and others highlighted increases in pickup and utility vehicle as their main drivers for sales last month, as the sectors continued to outperform the industry by increasing 11. 8 percent in February. Car sales fell 1. 4 percent. Leading the way in February sales were Toyota, up 13. 3 percent compared to a year ago, thanks to truck sales increasing 20. 2 percent. Honda Motor Co. , GM and Nissan Motor Co. all reported 5 percent or less increases in sales last month compared to February 2014. Ford declined 2 percent due to falling car and utility sales. It reported sales of 180,383 cars and trucks in February. The Dearborn automaker’s car sales decreased 8. 1 percent and utility vehicles were down 2. 3 percent. “We would like to perform better in cars,” said Mark LaNeve, Ford vice president of U.
