Unlike most auto plants that are visible from interstate highways it's easy to be a block or two away from the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant, which is tucked behind an extended-stay hospital, without even seeing it. On Friday, FCA US -- the company... Inside, the gleaming polished floors, spacious work stations and wireless tools make for a plant that is vast and open and a lot quieter than typical automotive plants. But at the Conner Avenue plant, it takes 2. 5 hours for cars to cycle through the plant. At the end of the assembly line a 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is just about ready to be totally finished on Friday, May 8, 2015 at the 400,000 square foot Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan where the Dodge Viper is hand built. The first Dodge Viper was built at this plant twenty years ago. Over its 20 year history of making Vipers the the Conner Avenue plant has produced 24,000 Vipers. Dodge Reveals Challenger, Charger, Dart, Viper SEMA Concepts - Automobile

Sublime Green paint is covered with matte-black T/A graphics and stripes, plus a matte-black treatment for the hood and roof. A functional hood scoop derived from that on the Dodge Viper helps channel cooling air to the 6. 4-liter Hemi V-8 engine, while Brembo six-piston front brakes sit behind 20-inch matte-black wheels to bring things to a stop. As on the 707-hp Challenger SRT Hellcat , the front headlights have been replaced with special "Air Catcher" intakes, and a new Mopar front splitter and rear spoiler provide additional downforce. The car's rear seats have been deleted, and the interior benefits from a pistol-grip shifter, white instruments with platinum trim rings, a rear roll-bar in place of the back seats, and carbon-fiber bucket seats with pass-through holes for racing... For the Dodge Charger R/T Mopar concept, a new front splitter, new side skirts, and a rear spoiler are claimed to improve aerodynamic downforce as much as they alter the car's look. The Dodge Dart R/T concept wears a hue called, "O-So-Orange," along with a matte-black hood that has a function duct directing cool air to the engine intake, as well as venting for the turbocharger intercooler.   DID YOU KNOW?

  A lot of times we get asked if a particular hood we sell (Ram Air hood or Cowl hood, for example) is a "functional hood". By functional, the customer is asking whether the hood is going to add horsepower to their vehicle by directing the incoming airflow to the vehicle's airbox.

  The answer is this: Most of the vented hoods on the market are not functional. They have the scoop built into the hood, and it's normally an open scoop that indeed lets air into the engine bay, but most of these hoods do not come with the ducting that is needed to control that incoming airflow and get it to the most "functional" place to generate more horsepower. That being said, there might be a small positive effect by simply letting more cool air into the engine bay, even if it isn't directed...

  There are a few companies who do in fact make functional hoods. Suncoast Creations, for example, is a company who makes functional ram air hoods that come complete with the intake ducting to integrate with the hood.

  We also sometimes get asked by a customer if he or she can put on a functional ram air hood and work that in conjunction with an air intake. The answer is no, because the ducting/filter that will be integrated with the hood will be clamped directly to the location of the airbox, thereby eliminating the possibility of running another intake. Basically, the ducting and filter that integrate with the hood is an intake system itself.

  One thing to be aware of as you shop for any hood is that aftermarket hoods are generally either sold as bolt-on hoods or pin-on hoods (aka lift-off hoods). The bolt-on hoods have a skin and a skeleton (a top and a bottom), and opened and closed using the factory latch. Pin-on hoods are generally only comprised of a hood skin (just the top), are held down using pins, and have to be lifted off to be opened since they don't utilitze the factory latch mechanism. The reason a person might want to buy a pin-on hood is that it is substantially lighter than a bolt-on hood.
