Standard on all 2500 trims is a 5.7L V8 Hemi engine making 383 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, which is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.   Updated styling includes a taller, more aerodynamic nose with a larger grille to allow greater cooling, as well as a new chrome wrap-around bumper. Headlamps and front fenders are shared with the half-ton 1500 models, but the hoodline is taller, making room for the Cummins diesel option. Inside, high-quality materials and stitching have been added to the SLT and Laramie pickups, as well as plush seats and metallic accents. The side mirrors have been modified to increase visibility while towing, and turn signals have been integrated.The Cummins turbo-diesel engine incorporates a number of technologies to improve fuel efficiency and emissions, including a cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, a variable-geometry turbocharger, self-cleaning particulate filter and oxidation catalyst. The engine is available as an option on all 2500 trims. These heavy duty trucks come with rear-wheel drive or with one of two 4-wheel drive transfer cases. Two-wheel drive Rams for 2010 again have an independent, double-wishbone front suspension, while 4-wheel-drive models get an updated rigid-beam front axle. In back, there's a heavy-duty solid axle, along with a Hotchkiss design that includes leaf springs for stability during heavy-hauling.The 2500 and 3500 trims come in single (regular) cab, Crew Cab, or Mega Cab styles, with short (6.3 ft) and long box (8.2 ft) variants. The Quad Cab has been discontinued, and that Crew Cab that replaces it is a full nine inches longer, featuring larger rear doors and more rear seat legroom. The Mega Cab model is geared toward rear-seat comfort, offering as much space in back as large SUVs. The Mega Cab's rear seats recline, fold down, and slide forward for flexibility. The 3500 models come with dual rear wheels for increased stability while carrying heavy loads and have a fully boxed, hydro-formed frame for superior load-bearing.Trim levels include the basic ST, which includes 17-inch steel wheels, vinyl interior, air conditioning, cruise control, tilt wheel, power windows on Crew Cab models and 6-speaker CD stereo.   I have had rubber mats for the bed bottom before, as well as drop in liners, and each has its pros and cons. After reviewing the various bed liners available for my 2012 Dodge Ram long box I chose the DualLiner. I am happy with it, the bottom mat is thick and has good grip that keeps cargo as well as people from sliding around on a slick surface, and in my opinion that?s basically the main benefit over a one piece drop in liner. The tailgate needed mounting holes to be drilled in it for the liner to attach to it, and I took my time getting everything lined up nicely, otherwise it could be installed in a shorter amount of time than I took, which was probably 1-1/2 hours. The rigid panels for the box front, sides, and tailgate were not trimmed evenly and symmetrically on the edges, mounting slots and holes, but all things considered the product is quite good in my opinion, and should perform its function well. Although I believe there is some room for improvement, I would still buy and recommend the product. The delivery time was very good, I was happy with that as well.

  The Dodge Ram was a top heavyweight, literally and figuratively, among all of its other fully-sized pickup truck counterparts. Created to look like the big rig trucks on the road, the Ram exuded an air of machismo that was backed by raw power and excellent performance.

  1981: First generation

  The first incarnation of the 3500 was the Dodge Ram 350. With its one-ton weight rating, it was the most heavy-duty pickup among the Ram line-up, the others being the half-ton 150 and the three-quarter-ton 250. Variations of the truck included a standard cab with two full-sized doors, a club cab which had a small passenger area in the rear with smaller doors, and the crew cab that included four full-sized doors with a roomy interior in the rear passenger area.

  1994: Second generation

  The Dodge Ram 3500 first came out in 1994 as part of the Ram’s second generation release. It came with either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. Engine choices included a 5.2 liter V8, an 8.0 liter V10 and a 5.8 liter Cummins turbodiesel engine. The Quad Cab was introduced in 1998 as an improvement to the crew cab body style and included two suicide doors on the back. The steering and suspension system was improved in 2000. The 3500’s Steering and handling were considered to be exceptional at the time while its engine power made it more than capable of towing various heavy loads.

  2002: Third generation

  The third generation Dodge Ram 3500 came out with only standard cab and Quad Cab body styles. The Mega Cab was introduced in 2006 and was essentially a bigger crew cab. The standard cab had a full sized bed, the Mega Cab had a shorter one while the Quad Cab could’ve had either of them. The 3500 originally came with a 5.7 liter Hemi V8 engine but it was discontinued and replaced with a 5.9 liter Cummins turbodiesel engine. The engine was later upgraded to a more powerful 8.0 liter V10 engine.

  2009: Fourth generation

  The last Dodge Ram 3500 was powered by a 6.7 liter Cummins turbo diesel inline-six engine and came with either a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. The crew cab now came with four forward opening doors while the mega cab body style had a roomier interior at the cost of an even shorter bed.

  2011: The Ram 3500

  In 2011, Chrysler turned the Ram into an automobile brand specializing in the iconic pickup truck. The name Dodge Ram 3500 was discontinued in favor of the Ram 3500.
